65 or 71 Rear brake hose?

I am about to swap out my 65 rear for a 71 rear. I plan to replace the flexible rear brake hose when I do so. I notice that the 71 rear and the 65 rear have different hose set ups. The 71 incorporates the "T" in the line and the 65 has a separate "T".

I haven't crawled underneath the car to look at the 65s set up yet, so I am asking are they fully interchangeable? Or, is there a reason to use on or the other set up?

64-66 used a 3/16" line from front-to-back. Increased to 1/4" in 1967 when they started using the dual master cylinder. With that said, the 65 and 71 are likely to have different fitting sizes.
That doesn't answer your question, but that's all I have for you.

Interesting. I noticed I had to use a step down adapter for the rear brake line out of the new disc brake master cylinder. I wonder if I should replace the brake line from front to back with the larger one? The system seems to work perfectly the way it is though.

You should be able to reuse the current "T" fitting since it's simply attached to the top bolt of your current 8.2. You'll have to change the lines heading to each brake cylinder (because the axle is wider) but the "T" itself can be re-attached to the 8.5 in the same position.

I missed the part about you replacing the old line. I would replicate what was used on a 67 from the master cylinder back to the T.

Probably a good ideal for no more trouble than it is to do.

You are only about 15 minutes from me. We should do lunch.

Sounds good. We can talk trannys and rears since it looks like we're both getting ready to do the swaps. I work right off 49th and Ulmerton. I showed up at the Skylark Club meeting on the 2nd about 7:15PM but only saw 1 Buick. Was it a slow night or did I get there too early?

I saw one Skylark, a gold convertible with a white top. Driver must have been inside Cracker Barrel. That was the first time I stopped by. Hopefully I'll be able to bring the Skylark the first Monday in October.

The front to rear brake line in a 65 is a 3/16 line using a 3/8 x24 fitting at the hose end. Its a 1/4 line in a 67 using a 7 /16 x24 fitting at the hose end.

The hoses are different between the two. I can make you a hose with the 65 end where it joins the front to rear brake line and put a correct for 69-72 end with the tee attached on it at the axle housing so you can use the factory bracket and factory line set, which I can supply also.

The hose is $21 in rubber and $32 in braided stainless and the axle line set is $25 in original steel or $32 in stainless. I sell repo brake and fuel lines. lmk if I can help. Marcel.
