joe the pans are actually vastly different. the 300 has a massive chunk pre cut where i had to fabricate it to match. the 300 is strapped to a work bench in my dads garage so i couldnt get a pic. its also a very short motor.

the 350 ended up coming very close to the radiator because of the clutch fan and the front of the motor sits a bit high but overall the engine fit fine and my custom oil pan looks like it belongs with an even 1'' of clearance across the steering bar. the old 300 starter fit nicely on the 350 as well :Brow:

i got the motor completely in and entirely hooked up today except the kick down mechanism and an air cleaner. the kick down i have to fabricate a bracket for and i need a low rise air cleaner to accommodate the lack of hood space now haha

here is a very short video of my wife starting it up for the 1st time. it has straight pipes which i salvaged from what i cut off but its going to the shop in the morning to get full dual exhaust. something that flows but is quiet (its not a hot rod in HER words). so gimme some time to detail the engine and whatnot and ill snap some good pics!

Wouldn't the 300 & 350 pans be interchangable? Nice Lesabre, btw!

*yawn* i know but the car runs great except a slightly sticky thermostat thats getting swapped out as soon as the parts house opens up

ill have to take a couple pics of the exhaust. the shop threw some nice chrome tips on there without me asking and generally did a fantastic job. car sounds real clean and nice. i love it

shifts a bit harder then it used to though. feels like i added a shift kit but it may be the increase in cubic inches and/or hp & torque :Do No:

Nice job...sounds n looks great. I'll be doing a 300/350 swap in about a month. Thanks for posting your work...clears up a few unknowns I had in my mind.:TU:
My 300 in the 64 skylark conv is running ok...'cept for the 4GC 4jet...had it restored and hasnt worked right since...fed up with screwing with it...plus mine has 97000 originals miles..would like to keep it that way...I just got to put the hammer down and the lil 300 dont cut it...need more torque....:Brow:
If I could be so bold to ask that you post your handy work rigging up the ST300 kickdown/pitch switch....thas the last ??'s on my mind:puzzled:
I have time....had a blizzard here yesterday n it'll be colder than my wifes shoulder for the next few....lolol.
Again nice job & thanks in advance!

PS....if there is a thread on the same swap in Skylark...my apoligizes for stealing the post....maybe some other Buick fan could post the thread..:pp

They are, I have a pretty extensive collection of 300 and 350 pans and Ted Nagel and I test fit all of them on his 340 and 350. I'm using a 300 pan cut down to fit my V6 to clear the steering linkage on my '64 Riviera. The oil pickup is also pan matched, I took a GM pickup for the V6 and cut 0.75in out of it and rewelded it together to clear the alterned sump location. An other option would have been to get the pan out of a 68-70 Fullsized which uses the same steering system but came with the 350.

Of the V6 pan or the trial fittings? The V6 pan I have pictures of at home and will be taking more when the motor comes back out here in the next month or so. I need to build a better baffle in the pan since I used a Turbo6 baffle template but the rear of the pan is shaped differently so I need to use the front as a template and custom fit the back to match. I'll take more pictures then. Also going to be welding an oil level sensor bung into the pan so I can see if I'm starving it or running low.
The trail fittment I didn't take a camera with me but the 300, 340, and 350 all have the same pan rails as does the 14 bolt V6 but its shorter obviously so it uses the same holes for around 2/3 of the rail then it goes to the same 4 bolts in the nose as the V8s.

I was more interested in the different 350 pans and if you had pics of those but your build souns cool. maybe we need a thread for that build!

Nothingface5384 Detail To Oil - Car Care

my assumption is x-frame and peramater 300/340 pans were different
    300 pans same as 340?
350 perameter(abody) and x-body pans were different...that leaves to ponder if the pans differed between a-body and b-body frames...i'm thinking not though

71+ 350 pans are all the same best I know judging from the fact that the Chevy pans are the same between the B and A bodies. That 69 350 pan looks to be the same as the pan I have that is supposed to be off of a 68 Full sized but without it in front of me I can't say for sure. The 64 X-frame pan is different than the A-body 300 pan a fact I went through great trouble to get one and then cut it up.

hey guys just an update. the car runs and drives great!!!

i had some low oil pressure problems at idle so i swapped the 350 timing cover for the 300 cover and away it went. 20psi at idle and a max of around 40.

i have yet to fabricate a bracket to mount the th400 kickdown but my wife doesnt hammer on the car so it shouldnt be an issue for a while (without a kickdown the trans cant alter oil pressure and can smoke clutches when you rail on it)

the rough shifting was because the timing was way low. timing is at 8* now but im gonna go to 10* and see how it goes. dwell is at 30* and carb is adjusted nicely (except the choke)

for my oil pickup tube i just cut the screen off since it was pretty bad looking and i needed clearance. i used a clamp and put a piece of metal screen material over the tube and left the end of it about 1/4'' from the bottom of the pan and i run the car 1/2 a quart high just to be sure it will never see starving issues while turning or braking hard.

anyways, all questions or comments welcomed. this certainly wasnt the straight forward swap i had hoped for but then again if i wanted easy and cheap...id drive a chebby!!!
