I'm trying to figure out how much backspacing I need to get on some rims I want to get. They are Weld Pro Stars, I need the spacing for the front and back of a 65 skylark.
    Thanks,
    Philip

    Philip,

I use Weld drag lites on my 65. 15x6 up front w/ 3 1/2 backspacing and 15x8s w/ 5 1/2 backspacing using Hoosier QTP 28x11.5x15 or M/T Sportsman pro 28x10.5x15 w/ a 72 8.5 10 bolt. The later rears are about 1' wider than the one that came in our cars. I now have an early style 12 bolt and need to use 7/16" spacers to get the QTP tires to fit. However, I didn't need to use the spacers w/ the M/Ts.

    Good luck!

    Regards,

I took my 15"GS wheels to a circle track guy. He cut my wheels just behind the center piece and welded in a 1" spacer on his wheel lathe. It was absolutely perfect for the wider 1972 8.5" rear end on a 1967 GS. I now have the tire pulled closer to the frame and further from the wheel well. I did cut the trim and roll the fender for extra clearance on turns and bumps, but it does not show. If uneven side to side, loosen the body bolts and slide the body back and forth on the frame until centered. Installed 295/60/15 M&H tires with no rub. They're almost a foot wide!

    Philip,

The motor is a Stg 2 464 from Tri-Shield Perf. It made 625 hp around 6200. I am still getting the car dialed in but to date I have run an 11.31. My goal is to have a 10 second street car.

    Good luck w/ your project.

If you don't mind my asking, how much did it cost you to get it built?

Which part? The motor or the whole car?

It cost $7200.00 for it to be built by Tri-Shield. However, I had the heads, intake, roller rockers, etc. Jim lists the motor on his site for 11K I believe, carb to pan.

It is a little over kill but I always want a 10 street car. Now I have the HP and it is up to me to make it work.

FYI - my last motor was built by me and the car ran high 11's all day long. Just a basic rebuilt, mild ported heads and a hemi killer cam.

How did you get stage 2 headers to fit the 64-67 body?!

    Gary,

The passanger header fit w/ only minor massaging. The driver side was the real challange. I had to cut and weld several spots on the frame and dent the headers at several points. Next time the motor is out I will probably get a new pair from TA that are design to fit.

If the stg 1 heads were available at the time I bought my stg 2s I would have gone that way. Now with TAs new 64-67 stg 2 headers you can go either way.

    Regards,
