As everyone probably already knows, I am restoring a '65 Skylark GS that was in pretty rough shape when I got it. I have one more question about it though that someone might be able to help me with. When I found the car, someone had already relieved it of its seatbelts. My car is a 2dr. HT with red interior. What do the seatbelts look like that are supposed to be in it? Did the GS interior come with the chrome deluxe buckles, or did it have the plastic "lift to release" buckles like my '65 Special and '64 Skylark have in them? Looks like I am going to have to pay a bunch of money for a red set of belts when I find them and I want to make sure I get the right ones. If someone has a set of the correct red seatbelts for my car, I have a nice set of black deluxe seatbelts out of a '66 I will trade for them.
Thanks George! Were your cars Sedans, Hard Tops, or Convertibles? The reason I ask is because I know the Sedan cars had a different interior than the HT cars and figured they might have different seatbelts as well.
Seat belts :3gears: my 65 GS post has the larger, plastic, colored belt latches. The other two similar cars that I've seen had them as well. My thin pillar 65 skylark parts car had the smaller, chrome push button belts. How about the Idea of SEM coloring the plastic part red and having a leather/upholstery shop stich up new red webbing? o No: Joe Jag GS/GN Go Fast
I found a set from a Chevy of some sort at a salvage yard. The belt material was very faded though and the chrome pieces needed to be redone, so I cut the belt material off and had the pieces all rechromed. My last resort is to send all this off to a guy I found to have them resown with new belt material, but it will not have the correct GM label sown onto the belt--I tend to be a purist and would prefer to find a complete, original set ready to bolt in. I think one of my buckles also needs a new emblem in it (has a aluminum stick on label that has the carriage on it).
Red retractor belts I have a nice full set of metal/red seat belts from a 1966 Skylark that I parted out some years back. Current car is black with plastic lift and no retractor. Webbing on the red ones is excellent. From a Grandma car. She had a date of birth on the title of 1908! The only fault is the left retractor cover is gone. Dated 1966. If interested, reply to my work email I don't check this often - kevin.r.gilles@lmco.com Thanks SkylarkNut:beer
txgwildcat, these are indentical to the ones out of my 65 Skylark thin pillar coupe, tag and all. The ones in my 65 GS post are big plastic style, still with the same style tag. Not sure of the model number. I wonder if Hamill Mfg. Co., Inc. is still in business? Brian, why not take the tags off your set and sew them on the new webbing?
That is them alright! Now if I could just find a set like that in red instead of black! If anyone has a set of the belts pictured in red they want to sell or has a set of the ones with the plastic buckles in red they want to sell, please let me know! Another thought as a fall back--if you want to sell that black set you have, I could have them remade with red belt material and have the guy transfer the tags over when he does it. Are they for sale? I just need a set for the front seats, my car did not have rear seat belts.
The webbing was so bad on the ones I have now that the tags were gone off of them when I found them--they also came out of a 63 chevy with red interior. I only have one good buckle --the other one is cracked and missing the carriage emblem.
I have a few odds and ends, buckles retractors and what not. What would you need to make a set? The ones I have pictured are already gone.
If I had a set of two of those 65 style deluxe buckles like in the picture I would be set. I already have a set of black retractors with the black belt still in them out of a 66 I parted and they are exactly the same as 65.
I want to wait and see if TXGwildcat has just a set of buckles, but if he does not, I am definitely intersted in your complete set.
I went through some of my seatbelt parts and picked out a pair of the nicest buckles I have. I also have a good tag if you want your belts to look more original. $40 for the pair sound fair?
Those two buckles look just like what I need. E-mail me at Stonesautomotive@juno.com and I will give you my address/etc. so you can get me a total cost with shipping. I would also like the tags that go on the belts too if you have them. I already have the pieces that bolt to the floor and the ends that snap into the buckles--even have them rechromed already. With those buckles, all I have to do is send it all off to a guy I found in VA that will put new belt material in them.
