My dad just bought yet another Buick the other day. This one is supposed to be an orig. GS. 401 with 2spd. Here's the VIN.444375B122974. Can anybody tell?

BTW He also bought a '65 4 door sedan from some other guy. I haven't seen either yet. What parts, mainly body will interchange? Is there fender or wheelwell trim that is different? Could there be differences in the brakes? Just curious. The sedan was intended to be a driver, but just got downgraded to "donor" status.

    65 gs

65 was the first year for a gran sport. it was a mid-year option so what you really have is a 65 skylark w/the gs option. 66 was the first year that buick actually had gran sports identified in the vin #. they were 446 cars. yours being 444 just means v8 skylark. a couple ways to tell if it's a true gs car, first check the motor #. should be a LR coded 401 and match the last 5 or 6 #'s of the vin. it should have a boxed or convertable frame. battery box should be on left or drivers side. their are a couple other differances and i can't think of them rite now. good luck and hope this little bit of info helps you out.

Your number is for a 2 door Gran Sport, sport coupe. In 65 a regular skylark 2 door sport coupe was 443375B..... if made in the same plant.

You are right about the V6 . The Skylark with the same number would have had only a 300 cid. So I see your point. If you have numbers matching 300 cid then a 44437 is a skylark. If this number has the matching 401 then it had the GS option.
