My 65 has the correct engine code for the car ! BUT the #s are right side up !From what I've heard these #s should be upside down when facing the motor. Anyone have their #s the same on their 65 GS motor as my car ? Gary/moz
Gary, Mine read like yours, but all the numbers are sort of skewed at 15-20 degree angle. I'll post a pic later. Mark
If I remember correctly, mine are right side up, meaning they're readable from left to right as you stand in front of the car, facing the engine. My car is safely tucked into storage til spring, and not easily gotten to for verification on this however.
Gary, I've got my Skylark GS at home in the garage and the motor for my Riv GS on a stand next to it. If i could post pictures i give you a shot of both. However the pictures never want to load. Tom
number upside down Gary, The '64 KT engine built in Kansas I have is upside down. The GS I used to own was built in Flint and it was upside down also.
Hi Gary On the engines I have the codes are mostly "right side up", so they can be read easily. I do have an "LX" engine with it upside down. The "MR" engine I just got has it right side up. No constant proceedure it seems. Most of the others are "LT" blocks stamped right side up. (I have 12 engines to look at!) Thats just my observation.
Mark, I thought all '65 GS engines had LR to designate a "400" instead of a LT "401" ? The one from my GS has LR on it.
Brian, check this thread: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=54605&highlight=nailhead+stamp LR was what they are supposed to have, but mistakes were made. I've turned up a couple other "LT" stamped 65s in the past 15 years.
Gary I had a 65GS hard top four speed, the factory used an upside down 5 in place of a number 2.All other numbers were right side up. The factory was sloppy when they stamped the nailhead blocks.
Yep, who would have thought they would be a big deal 40 years later? Cheryl - LR 599 Ray, have you been here and here? They have good terminator areas.
Oops! Here's another mis-stamped block that was 'corrected'. The 'MT' was corrected into a 'MR' code.... Production cade and VIN match the car, so it must be original..... I've seen another Fremont built '66 with a similar 'correction'. ou: At least they fixed it...
yes I have been on those sites in the past, it's cool to see a nailhead guy use the word Terminator... The 65GS that Gary owns I once owned that car the numbers stamped on Gary's block that match the vin number looks like it was stamped with some kind of stamping machine plus the type set is different. It was definitely not hand stamped. Gary must be surprised that I remember that, I have a very good memory. maybe Gary can post a picture?
Here you go Ray! BTW, it's a '66. It's a relief to hear there are other cases of this happening. Must be Buick 'standard practice'
Guy? o No: Oh well, A friend has one with a lot of the goodies Steig Stage III porting, 2.80" upper, 4# lower, 60# injectors, SCT MAF, BAP, headers, exhaust, HBH tunes, suspension mods, bla bla bla. Runs very well, and has close to 550 hp/tq at the rear wheels. Cheryl
Thanks for posting the second photo, yes I have seen that on other nail heads. When the factory stamped over one letter it was always done on an engine with the same specs. There is one thing I cannot find the answer too, on the cowl tag on the firewall there are numbers hand stamped. does your cowl tag have numbers hand stamp on it?
