The car is beautiful but... the tach is not a factory tach. an olds tach maybe..this car is a real eye catcher and if as solid and clean as it looks in the pictures is well worth the price in my opinion.

DEADMANSCURVE my first word : truck

my dad had the dark/emerald green version of this ( minus the ac and tissue dispenser ) and i have to say that it was perhaps one of the worst decisions of my life to not grab that car when he wanted to sell . 25000 miles and almost as good looking . he thought it was a little scarey to drive . i thought quite the opposite . it really scared the crap outa the guy that bought it when he lost it and wadded it up good in a bunch of trees and bushes about two days after he bought it . i kicked myself several times . tears were shed man . del

Is that where the tissue dispenser is supposed to be mounted? Looks ok as long as it doesn't get in the way. Seems like a 4-speed would not like it there.

Is the build sheet/invoice the only way to determine if the car is correct? They talk about numbers on the engine only and I was not aware that in 65 they matched numbers with vin. This looks to be a very nice car. Never seen one optioned as heavily. Wonder why they did not clean up the engine compartment??? Other then the tach, did anyone else see anything that was not correct for the car. It would be a very nice car to have in a Buick GS collection and if as correct and nice as he says, then it would be worth the money. Can this engine be made to run like the 455's??

all buicks from 64-72 ( and possibly later cars) have the serial portion of the VIN stamped somewhere on the engine and trans. i think the tissue holder is in the correct location,it isnt folded up as it should be so it looks funny in that position.

Very Very nice looker, but if that much time and $$$ was put into it, why was the interior not done correct? RED dash, carpets, door armrests, steering wheel? :Do No:
According to all my dealer and factory paper work the white interior had all those components in CHARCOAL GRAY.?
My flame red conv. with white top, and white interior has the gray.

Nothing like having an original to look at to spot the differences. Thanks for the tip. I do think the car looks nice and wonder how much the "mods" would hurt the price. It looks to be the right steering wheel and arm rests etc just painted red. Same question on the engine, why spend $5K on the engine and not put some new paint and detail it out?? I had a 67 GS with the 400 engine. It was a bullet proof car. Not the quickest one on the road but smooth, quite etc. They claimed it was a better engine then the 401. Any comments from nail head experts. I would not expect this car to be a very fast car, but I could be wrong. How would you compare the 67 to the 65/66 GS??

I've had 3 of em ,they are not racecars, But they sure are FUN to drive ! will light the tires in a mini second auto or 4-spd,i had a flame red 65 4-spd i was going to do the interior like the one on ebay. It sure looks good with the red exterior ! correctness is a personal preference,Myself i'd take that convertible in a heartbeat if I had the dough

nope, it is supposed to be to the right of the ash tray. I still have the instructions for my NOS tissue holder someplace....

I agree, while not correct, it is a very nice car. I wonder how many of the other options may have been added on.

    65 GS on Ebay

I just got the entire vin # for this GS Convert on Ebay .

I bid on the car but I think at this point there seems to be something wrong here .

    444675H303245

I'm not sure but I don't think this decodes as a GS ?

    Please let me know ,

no way to tell if a 65 is a GS by the VIN number. skylark and GS wil have the same vin number. only way to tell for certain is by paperwork or numbers matching engine and transmission

    theres no way w/out paperwork

65 GSs v.i.n.s This should do it ! I ran into this vin thing without paperwork when I was selling my 65 GS a few years ago. thanx to Smartin for reducing pic ! so if we take the vin from the vert ,we get 444675H303245 with an LR code matching #s motor we get that the car is legit !!! TRUE????? :) Moz

:) The only way I have found to tell if a 65 GS is auth. is 1. the orig. shipping invoice, 2. the build sheet, 3. the orig. window sticker, or 4. the body build tag/sheet under the tar sound deadner under the carpet.

The serial# will not show a GS in 65. The number 444675 was used on all 65 V8 Skylark conv.'s. The GS was an option, not a series in 65.
However the LR code engine should show the assembly plant code and the last 6 #'s of the serial # stamped on the left front of the block in front of the intake manifold. The LR # should be on the right side of block.

The hardtop and pillared coupe will have the boxed frame of the conv. also.

Also my owners manual has the engine code stamped on it. #R 307, also the code for the trans, which is code KR for close ratio 4 speed.

After going back and looking at the pictures of the E-BAY GS conv. somemore:

I agree, the RED & WHITE interior is AWSOME, but for $18,000 to $24,900

    there are some serious questions!

    1. white with gray int.?

    2. the tach is not a buick. ( mine has the pointer knob on the bottom of the
dial, for setting) + "BUICK" is printed in white block letters just above the
    knob.

    3. would like to see the firewall tag and get decoded. This is one of the most heavily optioned conv. i have ever seen. Would like to see how many options many have been added at a later date.
Personally for $18,000 to $24,900 I want to see a lot of documantation.

are you trying to stir up a hornets nest?
    401/425 Nailhead V the 400/455.

They are both awsome. Personally I like the nailhead, especially with 2-4's and alum. valve covers, and that cool BUICK GREEN color.
I'm an old dude and used to the nailhead. Can remember when the orig. nailhead came out in 53 for BUICKS 50th. anniversary

    hope this helps some

Al, I could not think of a better place to "stir up a nest" then right here!!

Decoding these old cars is somewhat of an art. It usually takes a couple folks to finally get a 90% answer on all the different facts and given that the factory had a mind of it's own, may or may not be correct. Hate to see someone bid on the car only to find out later that they had wrong information. I too was interested in the car, but since someone on the board is bidding, I will refrain. I just thought it was a very nice looking car, well done, and a sleeper on the value chain. Hard to find a big block, numbers match, loaded conv for less then $20K that is a "correct" car. Now I find no problem with the color changes in this case but I am sure it would hurt the car if a judge picked up on that. I do think the redesign is better then the original with the exception of the arm rests. I also wonder about the options. I think adding "correct" options does not hurt the car and in this case, I think helps the car.

A very nice car and if can be bought in the low 20's potential down the road as it is a Buick.

    Thanks for all the info.
