What was the HP rating of the '64 engine? compression? That would be a neat option, (to replace the whole engine)

Hmmm... I bought a 215 Buick engine that I need to pick up in Wisconsin... I could try that scenario someday. Right now I am just looking to do the manifold swap.

I believe that the 64 300 motor with a four BBl was factory 11-1 compression. this is why it is a sought after motor. with the 2 bbl is was quite a bit less.
For years you couldn't give one away. Now they are getting expensive, street rodders are using them because of the light weight. Same goes for the 215 motor.
    I just sold a 300 with 4 bbl and 300 trans for 500.

Was that the 64 or a all cast iron engine?

Ted, for 64, both 2 bbl and 4 bbl engines were cast iron blocks with aluminum heads and intake. This was for 64 only, in 65, Buick went to cast iron intakes and heads. I think the 2 bbl was either 9.0-1, or 9.3-1 compression.

Bruno, to the best of my knowledge, the aluminum 215 intake does not fit the 300 engine. IIRC, the 300 has a higher deck height than the 215.
