I am getting ready to disassemble the frame and prep for paint and re-assembly.

I'd like to get away from the solid shaft front A-arms and go with a more common 68-72 A-Body style to allow the use of better bushings.

Any particular year that will better serve my needs?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Eric

They used steel bushings in 64 and 65, changed to rubber bushings from 66 to 72. They will interchange. The main disadvantage to the rubber is that they're close to the exhaust manifold and will rot in time. I guess the reason they changed in 66 was lower cost and road noise transfer.

I have a 3" downpipe sitting right on top of the passenger side bushing. :)

Are there any vendors who still supply the steels bushings?

Good question. I just checked RockAuto and all they show is rubber. Maybe Bobs Buick Parts?

check out spc tubular arms. you can get delrin pivots that are a lot smaller in diameter to give you extra room and will hold up to the heat of the downpipe. I am running these on my Apollo for some of the same reasons, and they will also handle and perform better. Give Mark a call at scand customs, great guy to deal with. I can also help and answer questions as well.
