64 skylark. Do you need to reduce voltage or need 12v for Mallory 6AL?

I know I have read in the past about the voltage going to the boxes and coils. I dont have a battery in the car and need to know if the wire harness has a resistor in it and I need to remove it or add a resistor. Do any of the 64-65 guys remember or know? I dont want to destroy anything.
