Am wondering if a 1964 skylark convertible frame is a direct swap for a 1966 skylark convertible frame. Are all the tabs the same? Will the motor mounts be the same for different motors. Any and all knowledge appreciated. Please elaborate. Thanks
Yes, they are interchangeable 64-66. The front crossmember looks slightly different on a '66....on 64-65 there is a 'point' welded on under the engine, on '66 it's molded in. I think it was only used for transporting the frames or cars when they were new. '67 frame can be used also, but rear spring mounts are different. Engine mounts vary a little, but they bolt on, easy to change.
I just did it and the post before me is correct. The crossmember looks different and that is it.Worked perfect 66 frame on a 65
Yes I have seen on the internet that many frames interchange, but nothing specific about mounts etc., Thank you so much!
Are there any mods that need to be done if using a 67 GS 2 dr frame for a 1966 skylark convertible, motor mounts etc., thanks
67 uses different rear springs with a pigtail end instead of the flat/tagental end used in 64-66. Don't know if the early springs will fit. 67 also has an extended 'flat' at the front crossmember mount to accommodate the longer st400 trans.... basically just has extra mounting holes. A 67 GS frame would have different motor mounts if it's a 400. The small-block 300-340 mounts, i believe, are the same from 65-67. The early 64 mounts are slightly different. And 65-66 GS 401 mounts are in their own category.
Thanks for your reply, when you say the motor mounts on early 64 are slightly different, are the mounting holes different? I have a 67 GS convertible frame that I would like to use under my 64 skylark convertible. Might there be a pic of the two different mounting plates for the rear springs? I think the rear springs and possibly the motor mounts are the only thing I would need to modify.
