1964 Buick Riviera If you own a 64 Riviera, does your rear-end left side wheel bolt have ( Left hand thread ) or ( Right hand thread ):idea2:
Re: ? 64 Riviera question, Rear-End Left side axle wheel bolts have Left hand threads The Swiss built 1964 Riviera I have worked on had regular thread, so you had to turn the bolt clockwise to fasten the wheel. Here's a scan I made many years ago, the first generation Riviera is at the bottom of the left column, it says 1/2 R.H. :TU: < Click thumbnail :Comp:
Re: ? 64 Riviera question, Rear-End Left side axle wheel bolts have Left hand threads Right handed threads on all four wheels
Re: ? 64 Riviera question, Rear-End Left side axle wheel bolts have Left hand threads Thanks on the info guys:TU: I am trying to find the difference be-twin 63 and 64 Riviera left axle shaft. I have a left bent axle shaft on my 63Riviera. 1963 Riviera Right, 29.5 in, part number 1352858 Left, 27.1875 in, part number 1352859 1964 Riviera Right, 29.5 in, part number 1352858 (same part number as 1963) Left, 27.1875 in, part number 1363965 Right hand axle same part number. Left hand different part number. Same lengths on each side. My 63Riviera has Right hand thread on the left axle, so maybe on 64Riviera they made it Right hand thread and that's why there's a different part number.:TU::bglasses:
Re: ? 64 Riviera question, Rear-End Left side axle wheel bolts have Left hand threads On Chrysler products, left hand threaded lugs are labelled with an "L" on the end of the lug. Are GM left hand threads so labelled?
Re: ? 64 Riviera question, Rear-End Left side axle wheel bolts have Left hand threads They are on my '61, but oddly only the drivers side rear is that way. Drivers side front are standard threads. I have a feeling someone switched either the front drum or lug studs. I'm pretty sure it came from the factory with both drivers side wheels equipped with left hand threaded studs.
Re: ? 64 Riviera question, Rear-End Left side axle wheel bolts have Left hand threads I think from 63 and back, they have left hand thread on the rear axle only because that's were the torque goes to. Having all the torque of the engine moving the car with the rear left tire spinning counter clock wise and having left hand thread lugs, that would kip the wheel from shooting out of the car. :3gears: I know Gm cars spin with rear Right wheel. I have never had a sports car with a posi unit so don't know if they have left hand thread on left and right hand threat on right.
Re: ? 64 Riviera question, Rear-End Left side axle wheel bolts have Left hand threads So...... Where would one find road wheel lug nuts with left hand threads with matching right hand threads for the other side?
Re: ? 64 Riviera question, Rear-End Left side axle wheel bolts have Left hand threads Either '63 or '64 (evidently '64) was the first year for standard studs on the LF and LR. Everything prior to that had LH threads on the LF and LR, and are stamped with an L. They make aftermarket lug nuts for LH threads. I got mine for my slot mags from Summit Racing.
Re: ? 64 Riviera question, Rear-End Left side axle wheel bolts have Left hand threads Just Replace the studs with RH ones. NAPA
Re: ? 64 Riviera question, Rear-End Left side axle wheel bolts have Left hand threads I parted a 63 Wildcat, it had LH studs front and back. 64 they got smart!
Re: ? 64 Riviera question, Rear-End Left side axle wheel bolts have Left hand threads From all I read about it, the LH threads, drivers side front and rear, were only used on 61-63 Buicks. Not certain about other GM cars, but I know they were not used on Chevys as I owned a bunch of those.
Re: ? 64 Riviera question, Rear-End Left side axle wheel bolts have Left hand threads Sounds like a plan!
Re: ? 64 Riviera question, Rear-End Left side axle wheel bolts have Left hand threads Oldsmobile did it too...
Re: ? 64 Riviera question, Rear-End Left side axle wheel bolts have Left hand threads Until a hand full of years ago when hub piloted wheels became the industry norm heavy duty trucks with Budd wheels ALWAYS had left hand lug nuts on the left side both front and rear. Tom Mooney
