A local guy with a 62 or 64 LeSabre stopped by the other day, having trouble turning off his Generator light.

    Story went,

The car was running great....he had some work done on the brakes.....drives away and stops at a gas station where the engine harness then decides to catch fire.

On investigation he deduces that the brake work at the master cylinder resulted in the tech leaning on the voltage regulator, bending a post and somehow shorting things such that the harness burned up.

    To the present:

He has installed a new generator and regulator. The wiring harness is repaired and connected correctly

He cannot get his Generator light in the dash to turn off, and it does not appear that the Generator is charging.

He was fixating on "polarizing" the regulator as the way to shut off the light.

I tried my best but I could not figure why things werent working. Everything "looks" right

Does anyone with some experience with the older style Generators have any input, tips or questions that might reveal something I missed?

    Thanks for any assistance.
