I finally got my Buick home.

I'm the 3rd owner. First owner drove the car for about 6 years and then parked it for about 29 years. Second owner drove it for about 4 years and then parked it for 2. It has 90k original miles, about 20k after the engine was rebuilt.

I'll post the 'after' pics next year. :)

    Ouch!

I just got my first estimate for body and paint........$10k! :eek2:

I don't think that would be a very good investment based on the price of the Electra that sold on ebay..... :(

    "Mr Leaf",

Please put your name in your signature, we're all here on a friendly first name base.... :TU:

I reckon you can get a lot off of that 10K price if you remove all the trim, glass, bumpers and other stuff yourself ?

So ask what the price is for just the required body work, sanding and new paint

I've added a signature. Thanks for the reminder.

He did offer to work with me based on a budget or different work based on me removing the chrome, doing some of the prep, etc. His 'concern' was that the car would be worth less then whatever bodywork I/we put into it since it isn't a 'collector' car. He suggested I dump the car and buy something that I really like....

I don't think he is a Buick fan :moonu:

  7. 10k is really high to paint a car like ours. Could it be the bodyman was politely saying he didn't want the business? Also, does that include any bodywork? You should be able to paint that car base coat/clear coat for a max of $6,000. It may just be cheaper in Alabama, but I would shop it around.

    Nice car!

Yes, it did include some body work. ( about $4k worth since he said the paint job would be around 6k ). There is some rust perf. in the lower rear edges of the door jams... front and rear doors. Otherwise, the metal is in pretty good condition considering the age. He also felt that the whole body should come down to bare metal. The original paint is glazed and cracked where there isn't surface rust..
