My rear end stared to clunk when I turn corners after I did a burnout. I have a one wheel wonder and now it acts like a posi. I jacked it up and both wheels turn together now. Did I break the spider gears? Do I have a posi that just never worked? Where would I find another one or can someone repair these old differentials.

  2. I'm pretty sure both wheels turn together when you have it in the air even if you don't have a posi. If you put it back in the air, and put a chunk of wood under a tire, you should still be able to spin one tire if your peg-leg is working correctly.

Other than that, I'm not an expert on differentials.

In park it use to turn and the opposite wheel would turn the other way. Now it won't turn in park.

I can fix you up or talk to Greg (Wildcat1562) he is up by you and has the pumpkin for you probably.
The ONLY problem I've ever had is the BOLTs falling out of the ring gear carrier. Its fairly easy to pull the axles out and then pull your pumpkin- just lots of mess and oil.

    burn out

How long did you do the burn out for? and what is your fluid level like? You could have welded the spider gear to the pinion shaft by heating everything up too much on the burn out. Then it very well might act like a posi until enough grip will case it to spin abit on the shaft and tight slow turn will cause it to grind and bit and clunk. Just a thought and opening the cover and spinning the tires and holding the other inspect those gears. Goos luck. Jim

150ft way too long and I am paying for it now. Live and learn. Fluid was full and I took everything out and the spider gear is stuck to the shaft. The gears look good though.

    Gears

yAH JUST AS i THOUGHT. Seen it many times ...esspecially when people start talking about how there open rear is acting like a posi. It is making it self into a spool...lol

Try to get it out the best you can. If it does not come out you will need to do torch surgery. Hopefully spider gears are not to hard to find for it. Or find an upgrade posi somewhere. Good luck. Jim

I might have found a 1962 Electra posi unit.
