    wheelz 'B' is for Buick.

Sorry, NOT a BUICK BUT... a local OLD GUY has put his '57 Plymouth SAVOY up for sale ($3000)and doesnt want to deal with tire kickers... so I am going to try to help him sell this thing.
"I KNOW NOTHING" about this car.
It runs. It drives using utmost caution and concentration when stopping, looks like a WIDE "hemi" motor, (He doesnt recall what size?) Its a 4 door, some rust but not horrific, all the trim is there, push button tranny, radio...it appears complete minus one hubcap.
Anyway, if someone has any insight on this particular car, PLEASE ADVISE so I can at least post this car and make it APPEAR LIKE know what I'm talking about..PLEASE!!!
    As always, Thanx Guys!

Pix and details coming soon! Wheelz, Tampa Bay

Dennis, in this section, if you are facilitating the sale, an asking price is needed. Otherwise you can put this in the "Leads" section with the owner's contact info for members to contact directly.

Unless its a transplant, I'm pretty sure Plymouth did not use hemis in the 50s. Chrysler Dodge and Desoto did.

He is leaving for Mississippi this afternoon and will be talking to his brother who knows about as much as he does. BTW his brother was the original owner and he is turning 91 sunday. oh goodie. This car is now outside and he gave me permission to drop by and snap a few pix. I will do that in the next dayer two. STAY TUNED! Wheelz, Tampa Bay

It's been said already, but Plymouth didn't do the hemi then. The engine options for the Savoy in '57 are the Poly motors, most likely it is the 301, but it also had the 318 and 326 (which is NOT related to the dodge 325, ask me how I know that one!) as an option in '57. These motors are referred to as the "A" engines, not be confused with the 273-318-340-360 LA, or "Late A" mills. In 1958, the "B" motors were being phased in, the Coronet and Fury platforms received the 350 and 361 power plants.

The easiest way to tell the polys is the bottom edge of the valve covers are scalloped: The plymouth polys are more angular and shallow, while the DeDodgeo engines are a more organic polyellipsoid shaped.

This is the Plymouth Poly valve cover, I don't have any good images of the valve covers of my old coronet's 325, so this '56 315 will do...

The motor is called a poly due to the chamber (more like the porcupine chevy Mark IV), it is not a true hemi, but the Dodge motors (315 and 325) did have hemi head versions, and 354 Hemi is actually the closest relation to that family out of all the big (331,354, 392) Hemis!

    This is a 325 Hemi...

The only thing that will interchange with the old 318 and the new 318 is cam bearings, and the timing chain, I think.

As far as the Savoy goes, this car is basically Christine, which was a Fury. The savoy is just above the Plaza, which was the base model. These cars are full frame (like our beloved buicks), and share lots of commonality with the new (compared to the fifties) mopars. The Challenger/Barracuda rear end is a direct bolt in (spring perches are narrower than the B-bodies were), and so oddly enough, will a rear sway bar from an O.J. Bronco. The Furys and Custom Royals had front sway bars, but it's better to grab one from a Challenger T/A.

Fatman has a drop spindle kit for these things, and E/B body spindles will drop in as well.

I might have went a little overboard on this thread, but this is one car I do know a lot about, so if you have any questions, and nobody else can ask, I might know...

I'll dig around my site and see if I can find anything else that might be relevent, but the first things the new owner should do is a.) buy a hub-puller (you can't pay me to battle those press-fit drums, b.) convert the driver's side studs to Right Hand, and c.) replace that coffee-cup sized Master Cylinder O' Death with a larger MC from a mid sixties Valiant, if the drums are staying. Also, get a bracket from a seventies dart that would relocate a power booster from the firewall and that exhaust manifold, and put power brakes on that thing. Trust me, you don't want to try and fill the master with the troublesome bellows-type brake booster. :Smarty:

Any guesses what I was playing with before I got the bike and the buick was still sitting in a chicken coop? :TU:

I am still at a loss why the Bel-Air was the darling child of the fifties, compared to the spaceship offerings from the MoPar side. Forwardlook for life!

Roger..funny thing is... I thought the same thing! Till I saw the actual color under all that protective YELLO OKRA color, is actually beige...I have a pix above of where the yello color peeled off and shows the original color. PLUS there are no YELLO TAXI SIGN mounting holes on the roof! :idea2: Wheelz, Tampa bay
