Customer at work needs one for a 55 century , but or fuel pump listing only goes up to 57 . our carquest part number for the 57 is #40371 . our buffalo warehouse actually shows one . and our 57 century listing shows a 364 engine size ? thought they were 322 in 57 ? 364 in 58 ?
engine size dif = dif pump ?
    interchangeable ?
or does someone have a part number for one we can cross or whatever ?
    edit : quick web search , yep , looks like 364 in 57 .

Looks like the early version is used for vacuum for wipers . Might have found one ? Of course the garage needs it "right now" - what are they smokin ?

    Late type '55 (top photo)

    Early type '55 (lower photo)
image.jpg image.jpg '57 is different. '57 is 364, fuel pump is single pump, fuel only. The vacuum pump is in the crankcase.

'55 is a duplex pump, fuel and vacuum.
The 322 and 264 have the same pump.
There are two types of pump for the 322/264 ,
There is an early (53-early '55 and late '55 to '56)
Either early '55 or late '55 will work on all 322/264. I've used both types on mine without any difference in operation.
Both early '55 and late '55 are duplex vacuum/fuel pumps.

    Clarification;
The pumps as a unit are interchangeable to the engine.

The internal parts of the two types of pumps are NOT interchangeable between the pumps themselves.

thanks for info , but the pics i'm lookin at are left/right not top/bottom ? i'm guessin the "top" photo is left ( with date stamp ) and "bottom" photo ( flat plate on pump top ) is right ?

What James says. If your '55 has the vacuum pump/fuel pump combined, You will have to find an electric vacuum pump, or convert to electric to have reliable wipers. I have had three '55s and all had the vacuum pump on the Fuel pump. all '57s were 364. Your '55 pump is rebuildable if you can find the parts.

they are sending the pump to a local place that actually keeps some valves and diaphrams in stock and rebuilds them - just the pump end not the vacuum end . i'd guess they would sell parts also . so if someone is interested try :
    treadwell carb company
    treadwell , ny
    607-827-8321
if you web search that they also have an e-mail address

    There is a '57 322 nailhead,
Chevrolet put them in medium duty trucks.
The '57 322 in the Chevy trucks had a single (fuel only) fuel pump.

Edit; I forgot about the 'Fleetmaster' 322 for '57 chevy trucks in my earlier post

I bought a rebuilt fuel pump for mine about three years ago.
I got it from Bob's Automoblia or CARS Old Buick parts....
    I don't remember which.

Ethanol is a concern for the diaphragms.
    I don't use ethanol in mine, ...

The pump with a black painted stamped steel cap, with one center bolt is a '55 late pump.

The pump with a natural finished cast top with multiple slotted screws is a '55 early pump.

I forgot about the Chevy 322 in '57. I wuz thinkin' Buick cars. I think that there were some 322 marine engines after '56 as well, but they could have been parts replacement motors that were converted.

The Buick 322's were in Chevy trucks until '59.
