I am not sure where this post should be, but I will start here. I have a 55 buick special that has a horn problem. The horn would blow when I pulled the gear selector back. I found that the contact point screwed to the column at the bottom of the column was touching the linkage when I pull the selector back. The contact point is offset. It was installed with the contact closer to the top of the hole rather than the bottom. The contact was broken from the linkage hitting the contact. I found an NOS contact point and installed it in the same manner as the old one, and of course I have the same result only I didnt pull on the selector so hard as to break the new part. I tried to turn the contact around but it doesnt work with the horn ring. If I turn the steering wheel, the horn will blow in certain spots on it's own. I did notice that there is a collar on the steering shaft and I thought the contact should be riding on that collar, but the collar sits at the top of the contact hole. So my question is, which way does the contact point go in and is that collar part of the horn circuit? I am sure this post is very confusing. Sorry about that and thanks in advance

Yes it does. The problem I am having is at the contact point down by the floorboard. But what you sent me would have been my next question and the next step. Thank you very much! After looking through this forum, I think the 55 questions dont belong here in this forum. Thanks again!

I think there is a wealth of knowledge in this forum, but perhaps not as much for a 55 Buick. No matter. The hometownbuick site has the entire shop manual for a 55 Buick accessible for you, so you can get the section on the steering column (just look at the left side of the screen when in that link I gave you). Probably the best source for quite old original service information anywhere.
