http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/USED...ItemQQcategoryZ34198QQitemZ140099381875QQrdZ1 Thank God you 70 Stage guys have deep pockets....ou: o No:
I was willing to go up to $10,000 USD, but he only ships to the lower 48.... The price of living in Hawaii....
With that kind of money being spent someone will surely find a way to restamp carbs in a way cannot be detected. It's only a matter of time now.
Something seems kinda strange, at least in my opinion. It is a later date code which would not make it as applicable for later 70 cars. It went for a couple of grand more than that early coded one last week. Can someone maybe tell me why this carb is worth north of 5K unrestored?? I hear estimates of restored ones worth anything between $2-3K and this late coded carb sells for $5300? Kind of fishy.. I don't think I am the only one on here that thinks this is pure unadulterated insanity. It just reaffirms my belief that there is a lot of mental illness in this hobby.
You said it better than I could have. I think it is a sure sign that the lengths some will go to just to have a numbers matching car has gotten out of hand. Craziness. :eek2: Though, if it was my carb selling for $5300.00 I would be all for it.
My GSX can stay with out an oe carb for as long as I own it. Because another 25 years from now when I'm 75 years old it won't matter to me. Let someone else worry about it. The car will still be worth something. These people are nuts paying that kind of money for a carb.
I agree with all of the above.....I think I'd prefer to use a '71 Stage 1 carb for the extra cfm. I think these folks are just STUPID. "Crazy" can be treated... There's no cure for stupid. Dan
It's worth a shot I quess. Here is someone else getting on the band wagon. :dollar: Ebay Linkage Though, starting the auction at that high of a price usually won't attract bids.
This one is from that shifty fella in AR who was trying to sell two GSXs and a bunch of other stuff. The sad part is that this guy in AR probably robbed one of his own cars for this and he will probably help put another car out there that doesn't have a matching carb. Thats just great.
I asked this earlier, but don't see it posted. Maybe it was on the BPF forum. On his listing it says that an 0150 date code would be correct for the Stage 1 and the GSX, but I thought that GSXs weren't produce until March. Would they build a GSX carb 1.5 months before the GSXs started their productions run?
If the date code is before the build date of the car, I don't believe that it mattered how far in advance. As long as the part is applicable for that model year and it is not after the build date, the carb could have been made a ways back in 69 and it still would have been correct on a GSX. As far as I know, a stage 1 carb would have been made for all stage 1 cars for that year an not specifically for a GSX. Correct me if I am wrong... It might look more uniform to have date codes that are close before the build date of the car, though from what I have seen and encountered with Buicks, there was a lot of strange things that happened up in Flint from time to time...
Most strongely have to say that is BS and when its a private auction too, But like GSCONV. said its got a Filter and extra,s yippy.
just gas and air guys.....$5300.00???? you will never catch me to check my carb number.........:3gears:
