I built this engine for a customer who's car was in a body shop for several years. When he got his car back, he had decided to make it a street car instead of a race car. He had me to build a 464 short block, and used all of other parts from the 523. Parts; '76 block, Pioneer 119B freeze plug set, TA1105 block girdle, TA1627D crankshaft, Eagle CRS7100C3D connecting rods, JE custom pistons, JE pins, Speed-pro R9798 ring set, Clevite main, rod, & cam bearings, Flat lifter girdle w/standpipes, JW 93008 SFI flywheel, ATI 918170 aluminum damper, ATI 916230 hub, Moroso 64210 pulley, Earl's AN hoses and fittings. Machine work by A. Hines Racing Engines; Clean and magnaflux, Mill deck & oil pan rail using 90 degree fixture, install girdle, align hone main bore, bore cylinders (.038" over), hone w/2 deck plates, balance assembly (internal). Other work; weld lifter girdle, install Devcon Plastic Steel Putty (to seal lifter gallery), install AN fittings and hose for rear oiling, install AN fittings and hoses for rear oil drain to pan, check clearances and assemble. If you are interested, please post to this thread. If you have questions, please call me. 270-737-4467 8am-8pm EDT. It must be picked up at my shop in Rineyville, Ky. $8000 Thanks, John
As a side note,A. Hines is one of the best machinists around southern Ohio, they build very competiitve NHRA stock legal cars.I've had work done there years ago and they were spot on. gary
I had Arnold do my machine work on the Formal Coupe engine when I had it rebuilt a couple years ago...excellent work, and he REALLY knows Buicks. Good luck with the sale, John.
He did my machine work from 1982 till the shop caught fire in 2009. One of the light ballasts started the blaze according to the local fire marshall. I have not talked to him, but have been told that he and James (his son) are going to build a new building on the same site. Thanks, guys.
I installed the engine, as pictured in the first photo, into my 71 GS street car and drove it 50+ miles. Then took it to Beech Bend. With open headers, I made several runs with the best of 10.908 @ 122.96. The engine had a KB107-118 cam, 11.2 compression, running on Marathon 93 octane gas. The car has an ATI 10" treemaster converter, TH400, 3.73 gear, and Hoosier 30" X 9" radial drag slicks.
So are you saying you reassembled it and its in your car? Is it still for sale? If still for sale is it a short block or complete engine? How many passes are on it? Have the cam bearings been grooved? If its now back out of the car, how long has it been sitting?
Jim, Please call me to answer these and other questions. I will be in the shop this afternoon or any time this week. 270-737-4467 Thanks, John
