$5.00 Cam Bearing installation tool, Homade Check this out. I was ready to build my short lock after all machine work was done. I told the Machinest that I would be installing my own cam bearings. I wanted to reclean all oil passages, water jackets and all surface Rust from outside the block before painting. I had planed on borrowing my friends Cam Bearing tool, But it turned out his Bearing fitting was for a small block chevy only. So without the correct tool things were on hold. So I went to The local Home Depot and brought A new Cam Bearing and my Mic. I bought 1 schedule 40 1/2" pipe about 8" longer than the block and after checking several PVC Fittings I found one a few thousands smaller than the Cam bearing OD. It was to large for the ID. After returning to my shop I installed the PVC Fitting on the Brake Lath. I turned down the forward part of the fittind to a few thousands smaller than the cam bearing ID. The back part of the fitting Fit into the Block with very little drag. So I screwed the fitting onto the 1/2" Pipe. Well I just wanted to show that for $5.00 and about 10 minutes work you can make a tool that works GREAT. I installed all the Bearings with no problem and the tool did not chip or crack. And no damage to the Bearings at all. The cam went right in with no hard spots. I am sure the Tool can be reused again and again. check out the Pics.
Cool ! We make tools out of pvc for ring compresser and tools to square rings in block to ck end gap .
Neat tool! But you didn't spring for the latest TA Cam bearings? Shame! The grooved hi-po Dura-Bonds should still be better than regular bearings, though. Devon
