Does anyone make an aftermarket 4-bbl intake manifold for the Buick 300? I just bought a 66 Skylark with the 300 and would like to upgrade the intake and carb. Any suggestions apprecaited!
Doesn't exist. There are only two 4bbl manifolds available for the 300 (unless you customize one from a 215)...They are the '65 cast iron & the '64 aluminum. The direct fit for your 66 cast iron heads is the '65 cast iron 300 4bbl manifold. If you get a '64 300 aluminum intake the ports are smaller. It will bolt up, however some say the mismatched port size will cause poor flow. The '64 manifolds show up on ebay pretty frequently, the '65 manifolds are more difficult to find. I ended up finding a wrecking yard '65 300, used both the heads & intake for my '64 skylark. good luck!
John, Just noticed you are from Duvall! You going to the Buick show on June 5 in Arlington or June 19 in Puyallup? Sorry about stealing the thread... Chris
Keith Ladderud will probably be there, he sells 64/65 parts and may have what you are looking for. I have his phone number at work at will post it here tomorrow. He lives here in the South Puget Sound area (Maple Valley/Covington) as well. I don't think he is a member on this board though. Chris
Aren't there problems putting the 64 heads/intake on a 66? Something about compression issues? Will the 65 heads bolt right up? Thanks guys!
'65 4bbl will bolt right up, don't have to change your heads for this manifold. For a correct port match, you can bolt up a combination of '64 heads & intake. The '64 heads also show up on Ebay all of the time. The '64 heads have smaller chambers so you will increase comp ratio a little by putting on these heads. To increase it even more - buy a set of 4bbl pistons. 4bbl pistons will give you 11:1 with the aluminum heads, or 10.25:1 with the cast heads.
Got it - thanks again for the info. Now next most logical question - if I get a new carb what do I want to go with that will be a bolt-on?
64/65 intakes I have a '64 Skylark with the 300 4-bbl aluminum head engine. It is factory rated at 11:1 comp. ant the intake gaskets are different than those listed for my 65 300 v-8. I may have a spare set of '64 gaskets lying around if you can't find any but Robbins Auto Parts is where I bought them many years ago when I rebuilt mine and for some reason I think I had an extra set, I'll hafta look and see if I can find them. i can get low mile 66 300 heads for between $150 and $100. the motor only has 66,000 on it the motor pulls comprsion yet but has been sitting. also have access to a 300 aluminum engine. w/4bbl intake and stick carb on it. also has stick set up with 3 speed tranny. i want to ask another question of these motors. in one post they said the 340 intake will fit the 66 steel head motor, is this true? if so i have a 340 4bbl intake as well. but i realy don't know if that is true or not. the picture is the 300 aluminum out of the car now
