i plan on running a poston s-divider intake.do i just use the tin valley pan or do i need a set of rubber gaskets also?
I was under the impression that you always need to use a valley pan. When I put my SP on my 455, I used a valley pan again. If yo ucan use another gasket, I wish I'd known because I hate installing that damn valley pan gasket!!
You'll use the tin valley pan, but you'll also want the front and rear rubber seals too. There is a composite gasket that you can use for the heads, but you will still want some sort of valley pan to keep from having oil sucked through the PCV system. In that case either you cut the factory pan to fit, get one from AM&P, or have one welded to the underside of the intake (Jim W does this, I think). Currently I'm waiting on an AM&P pan because I have to run a larger intake port opening than the original valley pans accomodate. Hopefully it gets here soon too... it's been a week since I was told it shipped. Good luck!
I used a stock tin intake gasket when I installed my S-Divider and it leaked so I bought the composite gaskets and seperate valley pan from PAE it solved the leak. The valley pan Jim sent fit good .I used the rubber end gaskets and had to trim them slightly where the pan laid on it. I've been told to always use the composite gaskets with an aluminum intake.
hey guys i plan on using the valley pan.but i was wondering if felpro or someone made another additional gasket i guess like these composite ones mentioned.....thanks
The only fel pro intake gaskets are the steel ones. Get the composites from PAE, TA, AM&P, Tri-Sheild I'm sure there are others selling them also. The parts counter guy at NAPA gave me a puzzled look when I asked for the composites
Where do the steel valley pans have problems at? Leaking was a concern, what type of leaking? Oil, Water or Vacuum? Or a combination? Thanks for any comments, Mike
All of the above can be a problem. The composite gaskets we sell have silicone beads on both sides of the gaskets to help in sealing, I've been very pleased with them. Jim Burek P.A.E. ENTERPRISES
I've used the factory style pans on two different aluminum intake swaps. In both cases I used the factory rubber seals on the end rails. There were no problems with leakage on either of those motors.
