I have a 455 I plan to sell locally and had a question about what would be a reasonable price. It's a 1970 from a sideswiped Electra 225. It would be minus a carb, but has everything else. By everything I mean all the accessory mounting brackets and accessories (alternator, power steering pump, etc.). I pulled off the passenger side head and found one piston missing a 3/4 inch piece due to detonation. So I know there is at least one fragged piston. I do not know about the driver side pistons. The timing chain cover looks to be in good condition and I see no need to replace it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I'd try to get it for as less money as you can. Offer $100. If he looks at you funny, just tell him its a junk motor that'll need rebuilt with lots of new parts. If you really want it though, don't go over $200. 455's are entirely to common. You'll find a better one for about the same price.
Actually it's a complete engine. The only thing it won't have is the carb. It has the heads, intake, air cleaner housing, accessory mounting brackets, and the accessories too. I was thinking about asking $400 for it. I just don't want it sitting in my garage too much longer.
