Help - how do I identify a Buick 455 points distributor? If I'm in a salvage yard and looking at a pile of distributors, is there a simple way to pick it out? I assume they are interchangable (except the S1) with all 455 and maybe 400, 430? Did they have one part number? How many teeth on the gear? Any other hints?

    Bill,
They will all look the same. The 455 distibutor has 13 teeth, the 350 has 14 teeth. There will be some differences in the way they are curved( mechanical spark advance). The 1112016 is the Stage 1 distributor, 1111984, 1112077, 1111962 are the standard 455 #'s. My advice is to just find any Buick V8 distributor. You're going to have it rebuilt and re-curved anyway. Just had the ignitionman convert my spare 455 distributor over to magnetic pick-up. He does some nice work.

    thanks

Thanks Larry, that is what I am doing, looking for a spare to send to IGNITIONMAN. I just needed to make sure I'm not getting an Olds, Chevy, Pont etc distributor when I'm passing through the yard! I'll check for those part numbers after I spy a Buick one - Bill
