I am putting some repro valve covers on my 71 GS, and I thought I had the PVC breather hose issue taken care of. Look at the picture. That hose has the same diameter inlet on both ends, but that PVC ain't going to fit on that hose. What am I doing wrong here? The hose is a repro from Year One.

Dang it Smartin, you coulda PM'ed me that!

I went out and looked, your right my brother. So, what the heck goes in the valve cover? I can't find the elbow thingy anywhere, but I guess that is what goes there. Remember, I don't have the original stuff to know what I am looking for.

    Derek,
The PCV valve doesn't go in the valve cover, it's supposed to be at the rear of the intake manifold, and the molded PCV hose goes from there to the front of the carburetor. The hole in the valve cover is for the breather only.
There is a specific grommet that fits the valve cover, and it has a larger inside diameter that is meant for the breather hose adapter. The adapter is a short metal tube with one end that fits inside the grommet and the breather hose slips onto the other end.
So the grommet you have in the valve cover actually goes in the back of the intake.
I should have an extra breather hose pipe/adapter and new grommets if you need them.
I wish I had a camera so I could post a picture of it for you.
If you have any questions send me an e-mail.

    Derek,
I will see if I have one of them laying around here.
Do you also need the grommet ?
I'm not set up with PayPal, but I'm not too concerned.
    We can square up somehow.

    Adam,
You may need to make a spacer brkt for your cruise vacuum motor. I ran into the same problem on my Stg1 with the cruise not working due to the alignment error on the Performer. See if yours will work when you have it all done.

Yeah that ticked me off George...

I made a spacer and it surges really bad. I don't think it holds vacuum very well. Possinly a leak somewhere? It used to work...but I have always had a bit of a surge going down the road with the cruise on.

Check the vacuum motor by pushing the chain connection in and then placing your thumb over the vacuum port. The diaphragm should not move. If so, you have a bad diaphragm. Otherwise, check all vac hoses and their connections. Sometimes the brake vacuum switch can be open/bad.
