Hope I'm in the right forum. If not feel free to send it where it belongs. just let me know were it went. Thanks. Question: Have a local guy that has junked cars for years. He told me today he has a 455 pontiac, 455 oldmobile, and a 430 Buick. He says the engine is for sale. I'm interested in the motor. He says the engine came out of a 69 Buick, didn't say which model. How does one identify a 430 BBB engine?
If you mean just ID whether it is a 430 Buick, the numbers 430 are cast in the block on the step down just behind where the intake manifold mates to the block. If it was in a car, you would be looking between the carb and the firewall. If you want to know the year model for the donor car, look for the two letter code on the deck around the dip stick hole (I think).
Have a look at this thread, http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/400-430-455-block-id-prep-and-oiling-mods.214613/ The beginning of the thread deals with block ID.
Ok, I knew how to Id a 455. But I wasn't aware the 430 had the number in the same place. Thanks guys. Just what I needed.
