:Do No: I have a 65 electra rag top with a engine code of MT stamped on it. However, it has the "bump" on the driver's side rear of the block indicating it was to be bored as a 425 at the factory. The heads show being a 401 or 425, so that doesn't help. I haven't disassembled the engine yet and was trying to figure out some way of determining the engine size. I know MT was supposed to be a 66 401 engine, but this is the original engine. Also, the MT is followed by 25 and some weird symbol that looks like an upside down 9 with a line above it, what in the world?? Anyone got any ideas??? Thanks!!

    Gene,

If it is the original engine the 6Y116160 will match the last 8 digits of vin# in the driver's door opening. Otherwise it is not the original engine. Other then MT being a 66 401 designation, the 6 in your 6Y116160 is for a 1966 vehicle, the Y is for the Wilmington, Delaware assembly plant and the 116160 is the series # of the car. I am sorry to say that it is not likely to be an original engine. It is probably a 66 401 from one of the big cars.

thank you, here's the body vin..

The VIN says the car is a 65 model48467 custom electra 225 buit in Flint, Mich. I just found a website where two other Electra owners who also have the original engines have the same MT stamping. That web site says there is some error at the factory, and again points to the "bump" on the driver's side engine bank, just behind the valve cover. This bump actuated a machine to send the block to a different line to be bored as a 425. However, I just climbed back under and looked at my transmission. My transmission is a BJ code Super Turbine which was made for the 3.07 geared 401 engined 65 cars. So you still think it is a 401?
    Thanks for the help.:Dou:
