Is it posible to puchase a 425 nailhead crate engine from somewhere or at least just a running used one? I purchased my grandmothers 64 electra and was looking for a 425 since the motor in it right now needs a overhaul badly.

There are just a few nailhead only peolpe left. Another alternative is to pull your engine and to have it shipped to one of them for rebuild.

We're just lucky to find a good rebuildable 425 core. Many 401's are still around though. :)

It has the "Wildcat 465" in it right now, but its low on compression. Is the edelbrock B262 intake realy as good as they say it is?

You will have to have one built as nobody stocks these engines that I have ever heard of. I would rather have one built for my specific purpose and vehicle anyways.

If you let us know what part of the country/world your in there are a handful of shops that can correctly handle your needs. Check out the Nailhead vendors section too.

Yes the B262 is probably the best 2X4 manifold out there for flow and weight. But very pricey if you can find one. There is supposed to be a run of B262 clones being made but few have surfaced yet. My Gessler prepared Buick 2X4 manifold will flow with the B262 :Brow:

    Enjoy and keep us posted:beers2:

well, it will be sometime between updates do to the fact that I am only 16 and don't have a really good paying job, but its not bad. I am located in Yankton, SD. There ain't to many large towns around here that specialize is these sort of things.

the "clone" you speak of is the eelco 2x4 manifold... the only similarities with the B262 are that it's outward appearance is similar to the edlebrock's and it's a 2x4 manifold... it supposedly flows even better than the edelbrock too:Brow:

TA Performance sells these intakes, I called them yesterday (3-30-2007) and was quoted $425.00 and was told that these WILL fit under a rivi's hood... just make sure you specify the ellco intake as they have the offy 2x4's as well.

Speaking of an Edelbrock B262 I know there is one up for bid on ebay tonight.

Currently up to $625 but I bet it goes for over a grand.

Is the 2 x 4 set up too much for a 401? A friend of mine with a Wildcat with the 425 - 2 X 4 setup told me in his opinion the 401 with 1 X 4 was the best nailhead combo, the second 4 actually only added about 20 HP and the 401 was a better balanced and performing engine. I'd really like to have one for my 401, just for show if nothing else. Nailheads really dress up pretty, I have quite a bit of chrome on mine and the hood is always open at shows. I think the 2 X 4 set up would really be cool, don't think I have ever seen a 401 with this set up on it. Was the 2 x 4 ever an option on the 401? I'd sure like to have one but it would be difficult selling the idea to the wife. She would rather spend money on something silly like a new kitchen floor or vacation!

There is a Buick guy just down the road from you in Vermillon, SD. He owns exhaust plus and his name is Scott Henderson. You need to make a road trip if not to just see his Buick powered dragster that is very cool.
