Hello All, I'm new to the site and I could use some information. I have a 1966 4dr ht Wildcat with the 401 w/AC. I have a 425 that was rebuilt by DR. Big Block in Butler Wisconsin. The 425 has aluminum Buick valve covers from TA and my stock brackets won't work. Does anyone know if stock AC brackets from a 401/425 w/factory aluminum covers would work on my engine. This is one of the things I didn't think about until now . Thanks in advance for any information, Mark
Re: 425 AC Bracktes Right, Buick made special brackest for the back of the a/c to go over the aluminum rocker covers. Ask around, they are a little hard to find. Ted
Re: 425 AC Bracktes Has anyone thought or tried to reproduce these brackets, especially the dual quad rear all bracket? Dan
Re: 425 AC Bracktes Last week a thread was going about what parts to reproduce for Nailheads. Perhaps this is one we need, they are tough to find but I think if you are persistant you can find one.
Re: 425 AC Bracktes Yes, tough to find for a standard & harder for a 2x4 set-up. When you are able to find one be ready!!!!
Re: 425 AC Bracktes Mark's car should already have the bracket as the '66 A/C cars had the rarer 'right' one from factory. If it doesn't fir over the TA covers, I'd find the more common earlier bracket and mod (cut/grind) that to fit-good luck
Re: 425 AC Bracktes What do the experts think about this? Looks like someone is making a repo. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=200154568796&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=010
Re: 425 AC Bracktes Looks like a stock unit with the lip ground off to make more room for the rocker cover. Usually there's an L shaped lip that runs the inside radius of this piece. Ed
Re: 425 AC Bracktes I noticed that also......it looks really flimsy to me. I like the way he cleverly calls it "re-manufactured" uzzled: When those were originally manufactured they were stamped, and I would think they would be very hard to reproduce unless you have access to a really heavy duty punch press and dies like they used at the factory. Those are made of steel that is like 3/16" thick and the dimensions would be very hard to duplicate.
Re: 425 AC Bracktes Whenever I see deception and Michigan, I think of a familiar person who has been at this kinda behavior for too long-
Re: 425 AC Bracktes Dan, You got that right, though he does come up with some stuff that I have no idea how where he finds it. Larry
Re: 425 AC Bracktes It's like a game of "Where's Waldo" for me. I like trying to find him when he resurfaces after ebay kicks him off each time. Rick
Forgive me, but is there a reason why no one will mention his name? I hate to sound crude about bringing up names but are not we supposed to patrol ourselves and protect guys like me who do not know all the ins and outs in the hobby? Dan
This looks like our boy resurfaced. I believe his name is Randy Rymel. http://motors.search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZclassicQ5fspecialties Rick
Re: 425 AC Bracktes If anybody has one available I am also in the market. With that being said... I have the ways and means (I think) to stamp these out and remanufacture these. I need either a pattern or dimensions to get the press brake fixtures made, or at least get the costing done etc. to see how cost effective it will be. What is the going market value? (be nice... I know the meaning of supply and demand.) Me personally I like steel, but might consider an aluminum (billet) version also... Thoughts? Erik
Well I have been told the AC dual quad go for around $500,I paid $200 for a single four barrel aluminum valve cover one. I am not sure of the difference between the two. As for as demand, seems like everyone wants one. Dan
On the dual 4 bracket, the hole for the bolt that goes into the intake manifold is located about an inch? closer to the front of the engine. This is b/c of the location of the front carb. It is possible to modify one to fit in place of the other by simply making a cut on the lip with a hacksaw and then bending it in a vise to accomodate the fit. The hole will move about 1/8" off the mark and need to be filed out a little using a rat-tail file. If you are fussy, then you can weld the spot where you made the cut in the lip, and weld up the hole, then grind it all out smooth and re-drill a new hole in the proper spot. :TU:
