My '41 Buick shop manual says " use only Delco Shock absorber fluid" ??

What kind of fluid can I use?? Hydraulic fluid or what? Transmission fluid??

    Help me out here??!!:Do No:

    Hi,
I have the same problem with my '54. I want to take care of it ASAP but I can't seem to find anyone who can tell me what alternative there might be, IF there is one.
Some one suggested rear axle oil, but I'm afraid to use anything that might clog up the small holes in the absorber unless advised by a professional or those with first hand experience.
Well let me know if you find the answer.

Pick up some hydraulic jack fluid at NAPA or something. Same stuff.
