    G'day all,
Just new to the site. I bought my first nailhead (401) just recently and Im looking for some specs on the motor. What is the stock piston size and stroke? This one is 30 thou over so Im thinking that makes it 407ci(?)
The motor is going into a Gasser (A-40 Austin) Im looking at running Hilborn injection, stage 3 Gessler heads, top loader 4 speed and a Winters QC rear end.
Still thinking of stroking it and rod/piston combo. What I have are all new stock pistons, rods and crank. Im going to run them until I work out finances for the bottom end. Looking for some bare heads though to send to Gessler......... anyone??:Brow:
So far thats about all I have figured out, and help and guidance appreciated! :Do No:  :TU:
    Doc.

Stock bore for the 401 was 4.1875, stroke was 3.640. The 425 had a bore of 4.3125 with the same stroke. A .030 401 over is 407 CID.

    Yep, Larry is right.
I dont know of much that you can do to the bottom end to improve it unless you really want to get radical. They already have forged steel cranks and forged steel rods. The oiling system is well designed and only needs some fine deburring or polishing. A good balance job maby????? You might do a windage tray.
Any way, us Doc's got to stick together, hehe

Thanks guys, like I said all help appreciated.
What sort of HP could I run without killing a stock bottom end? Forged crank and rods? I like the sound of that!

Yup, we doc's must stick together. Owning the world is our destiny.......
(oops, did I just let the 'cat out of the bag?')

Balancing for sure! As far as horsepower, what type of fuel are you planning on running? That will play a huge part.
I dont see why a good 450+ couldn't be had on stinky ol gas.

i think it would take A LOT of power before you could kill the bottom end....

mind you, you need good bearings though
