so is there a rubber rear main seal that they use for a 66 401 or do i have to use the rope seal?

Problem is, is that NO ONE supplies directions or the proper sealer to use. If you go by what some may have told you chances are more than likely it will leak. I include directions & sealer with my rubber rear seals. Also directions on how to properly install the front rubber seal.

Buick V6 seal kit from felpro is BS 40613 and comes with semi-circle crank seals, rear main cap side seals, and nails to secure the side seals. easy to get almost anywhere and fits the rear main of the 401-425.

high temp black RTV can be used on the cap/block surfaces, side seals at block interface, and on semi-circle seal ends. with enough grease/oil you can get the crank seal in without removing the crank. side seals are a PITA tho.
