Could anyone out there give me an estimate on what I should pay for what I believe is a 1965 401 Nailhead.

    Thanks

Rick; I just bought a 1966 wildcat 401 engine and switchpitch trans with 82,000 miles running well for $500.00 including all accessories like p/s alt etc attached. I don't know what the prices or availability is on the west coast but I guess it is probably more.
Good buildable 425's, not running, $500 to $750 depending on who's selling it. Dual quad models run up to $1,200, again depending on who's selling and cash always helps with the price.
    Good Luck, John

Thanks for the quick reply John. Supposedly this was rebuilt not to long ago and is now in a boat.

    Thanks

Rick; Be carefull when looking at an engine that came from a boat. I have been told some rotate the opposite direction of a car engine. I am no expert on boat engines but was told some time ago to stay away from them. Maybe another member can be more specific as to differences.

    Rick:
If it is in a boat look at the prop and it should say LH or RH on the hub. THis will give the rotation . Sometimes boats drive off the front and not the bell housing end, so check how it is installed and then you will know the rotation.
I believe if it is counter rotating all you need to change is the cam and distributor. I will be glad to trade you a cam and distributor for you set up if you get the engine and it is CC>

Thanks for the help concerning the value of a nailhead. I went over to look at it and it turns out the he advertised it as a Buick but its an 401 AMC.

    Thanks
    Rick
