Who makes motor mounts for a 66 skylark with a 401. I called the local parts guys and they are looking but figure i would try to save some time and network. Thanks for the help!! Paul mass 66larkgs 401(turbo)
Paul, look in hemmings motor news and find a service that rebuilds your old ones and what ever you do dont throw your old ones away... they are the cores .....i had mine rebuilt thru C.A.R.S. ,,,, but it is going to be expensive....
Rockauto has a listing for them. http://www.rockauto.com/ Sometimes their application listing isn't accurate on this old stuff so be aware of that. They will refund the part price and your shipping if the catalog is incorrect.
Rockauto listing is wrong. 'more info' button shows a pic. http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carcode,1319228,parttype,5552 Only supplier I ever knew of was Buick. CARS or Steele Rubber offers a service to have the originals redone. About $85 a pair. There is a Chevy mount, #2142, that is close, but it has a 3 bolt base instead of the Buicks 4 bolt base. http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carcode,1323863,parttype,5552
I have been looking into using the chev 2142 mount. One problem is most I have found are much thinner metal than the original or old 2142. I had an old one and was making some mods to it and was ready to order new chev one's but the Anchor brand I looked at is the thin one. I am looking into using somthing like energy Suspension ones, but have not been able to see one to see if it is thicker steel. thanks Bill.

The 65-66 Skylark GS mounts are different from all other applications. AFAIK, there were never sold thru the aftermarket. I bought one new from a Buick dealer in the early 80's before they were discontinued.
the 65/66 are a different mount very much like a chevy but not a 3 bolt. i am most likely going to fab up a set from a chevy motor mount. These where not blown yet but i had to drop the oil pan down so i figure i might as well change them. i will take a few pictures when i make them. if anyone is in the need of a set or a spare i am sure they would be cheap to make.If i am making one dont mind making a few more. paul acushnet mass, 66 larkgs turbo 401 nailhead
I have made one from the Chevy mount. I was not happy with the lack of robustness. The factory 65/66 GS mount, in my opinion, is too small for the torque we have. But it is what it is. Anything less robust (ie - the SBC mount) is worse. Compare the 65 GS mount to a 455 mount and you'll see what I mean. I have repro'd the lower half and sent to Steele with the upper half from the big car mount with good results. The big car 401 mount upper half is identical to the GS upper half. I have asked a few times on interest in repros, but it seems most people tend to just go with the revulcanizing route. Walt, if you want to discuss repro's, shoot me an email. Cost is always higher than revulcanization because, to my knowledge, Steele has the only mold fixture for these rare pieces. The market is somewhat limited. Pat
Buick actually had a kit that prevented motor mount breakage by running a piece of slack chain from the left front of the engine to the frame.... some one here on the board was at one time selling something similar to these.... see them once in a while on ebay.....
