i am told that Isky will grind a cam for you..... contact them and discu$$ it with them.... also there are custom cam grinders around that could do it , , If they can wade thru all the chevy cam blanks,,,to get to it.... With all the hydrolic grinds available why in the world would any body want one that uses solid lifters and have to do all that adjusting???? a nailhead only goes up to 6000 rpm max.... not exactly a valve floater.....

I still run an old solid Engle cam, but with todays technology-there are much better hydraulic cams available. Isky can regrind your old cam, but you will still have a hydraulic cam and need adjustable rockers to make up the difference caused by the regrind.

:beer Always good to have another 65 family on board. Is she a Riv or a Skylark?

    Oh yeah, almost forgot!
    Camshaft info is here:

If you go with a solid lifter cam, you'll need adjustable pushrods, or adjustable rocker arms.
Forget the early adjustable rockers, they have less ratio than the stock 65's.
Roller rockers are adjustable, but not cheap.

Valve-piston clearance is tight on these engines, so choose your cam very carefully.

A personal recommendation would be stock replacement cam, or the 'supercat' grind (see info on the previously mentioned cam thread)
and a set of Telesco roller tipped rockers. Check out the thread 'Tom's roller rockers' much info on his rockers there.
I have them on my car, and everyone else here who has got them on a running car feels the same-well worth the money.

my freind mechanic said a solid cam will make more power but he has never seen a nailhead. lol the funny thing is the motor when full throtle, the motor does not seam to die out it just keeps pulling like it wants more.

I didn't think you could get a solid cam or solid lifters for the Nailhead.

You might want to wait for TA Performance to come out with the Hydraulic Roller cams. I would think they should be out soon.

As I recall on a 455 the test showed the non solid lifter cam made more notwithstanding conventional thinking. Tom T would know since he worked on the normally aspirated nailhead that makes the most on the dyno.

thanks all. not that I need A rebuil yet just want to put together a base plan. The motor is strong no smoke but I want to do a rebuild wen I pull the motor out.You no rings, bearins, clean it up real good and a nice cam.
I need to do some painting. I still rember wen I was a kid my first look into a nailhead the size of the pistons.
