Hi, looking at Ebay last night and saw a engine block that had been opened up to a 425 would this be safe to use or is this a piece of scrap? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1965-BUICK-...t=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr
Well I would't just scrap it because as the ad says it can be sleeved, however without doing a sonic test to see how much wall thickness it has left, it is very doubtfull it is valid "as is". For what it's worth, if you are looking for a GOOD LT code block and crank I have one I'll be willing to part with. As a matter of fact I have almost a complete disassembled and inspected engine if you need any other parts. Erik
jim : whats your location ? should include that in your heading . i've got an extra engine and extra block , heads etc as others do probably but if ya ain't too close thats not good . also if someone local to ya see's this that could work out good for ya .
http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.ph...1+maximum+bore Read above post. Thats a 1/8" overbore. There is probably a reason the ad description mentions it can be sleeved.....probably because it has to be because they went too far. If its truely bored 1/8" over, I'd stay away from it. Waaaaay too much risk even if you got it for free. Even if by some miracle it sonic tested OK, I still wouldn't risk all the money you'd have into a build. By the way over on the AACA site Buick parts forum there was a 64 425 KX code block fairly reasonable.
I would pass on that engine,,,, Back in the day,, we would bore a block 1/8 if,,,, if,,,, we were looking for absolutely every bit of power it would put out.... but , you dont gain that much from over boring,,,and the engine will run hot a lot quicker..... besides,,,, if you think about it,, you should bore only what it takes to clean the block up, so the engine will last longer before it has to be sleeved or scrapped....
