Thank you. i was asking because there is a set of lightweight forged 401 pistons on ebay but they are made to be used with BB chev rods which are 6.535 in length and the nailhead rods are 6.22 in length. i wonder what it takes besides grinding the rod journals to bb chev size to use the chev rods in my 401. Bob
Tom telesco informed me that the pistons on ebay are all wrong for a 401 and weigh over 1000 grams . i wont be pursueing those. Bob
Cheryl, sorry to disagree, but BBC rods do have a bigger, thicker or wider, whichever suits, bottom end & need to be resized. The average NailHead rod is approx. .965". The good part using a BBC rod is that now good race bearings can be found & used. Tom
Your right Tom. I was thinking of the SB Chevy rods with a .940" width and 2.25" diameter used in some of the stroker kits. The BB Chevy has a 9.90" width for those wondering. Cheryl
So are we saying there is a bowtie rod that will fit our application without excessive modifications to it or the crank? I'm ready to buy some parts :TU:
