This is the only number I have on a 401 block (I27257 and 6D1033621). Does anybody know what year this and what car it came from? It has a standard bellhousing. We jsut picked up the motor and 2-425's that are LX's...one is a dual quad. It as a sold lifter cam...think it is a sig earson. has adjustable rocker arms, a new fly wheel, clutch, and pressure plate. The clutch has 7 spings instead of 5 and you have to stand on the ams and the pressure plate to move them because they are so stiff....could this be after market? Also it had zommie headers. But the big question is it has a rear drop oil pan which is chrome. All my other nail heads have a center drop. Could this also be after market?

    Thanks for any information...

    Hank,
Are you sure that block is a 401 - crossed the numbers with those at buick.net and it looks like it should be a 1957 364 block.
They have a good listing of engine identification numbers there.

yes, '57 364 out of a Century. Rear sump pans were found on A body applications and pre 1958 applications.

    Thanks guys.
And would that rear slump oil pan fit a 401/425? And are the rockers and cams the same?

Hey, i'm not sure if the rockers and cams are the same. I'll ask my uncle and get back to you if you haven't found out yet. My uncle is the automotive guru, and he owns about the fastest Nailhead your gonna find within many many miles.
