Hi, looking for a 5335 shifter handle. I know I can get a repop at the parts place or opgi for about $200 but wanted to see if anyone has one they are willing to part with. Thanks, Fred.
I have an original unrestored 5335 handle however...by the time you buy it, ship it off for replating, and get it back you would prolly be $200 ahead buying that repro.. I'm just sayin'! ou: Wheelz, Tampa Bay
Ya Curtis, THANX. ..I can see the diff's... BUT if you dont have access to an original shifter handle, this repop would have to do huh... Wheelz, Tampa Bay btw is part 2 of your show August 15th at 8:30pm?
Yip! Aug 15 8:30 pm. This episode will be new for me too. I could not be there for that day of taping. And for is uneducated folks lol what's the different you see in the pix from original to repro
Well, . . its like this; I have a complete 70-72 Buick 455 4 speed setup I am in the 'CONSIDERING TO SELL PROCESS' at this time... I will post it in my own thread when I am ready... Mondello Buick flywheel, rebuilt M 21 wide ratio Muncie tranny, original shifter, bellH, linkages, pedals, "Z" bars, chassis brackets, floor hump, etc...be forewarned, it wont be cheap. :Brow: Wheelz, Tampa Bay
you can use the 68 69 cutlass shifter handle...not the 442...442 is embossed...on the cutlas it just says H same shape...bolts in..looks right...its a real forged handle..who knows what the repop is..it could be flame cut mild steel.. ive put some cutlass shifters in buicks..been doing it for decades..
Um Mark! for guys out there looking for correctness, your response is rather interesting. . . you posted; "repop is wrong..way wrong..." however, you dont have a problem installing 442 "H" shifter levers that are also WRONG? ou: I'm just sayin'. Wheelz, Tampa Bay
I would rather have a factory Hurst handle than a Chinesium repro. And lets face it, 99% of the people out there wouldn't know the "H" handle as not being original.
how much does an original handle go for? One thats chromed, and in nice condition I dont think Ive seen one or come close to being able to buy one. I imagine they cant be cheap. The repro I used.. I thought was pretty nice. Chrome was super nice, the ball fit perfectly, I had no issues.
I paid A LOT of money for an original 1973 Buick A-body (GS) 4 speed shifter that was completely rebuilt. Looks like the 68-69 Olds ones with the H but there is a slight difference. Would I have went with a repro instead of shelling out the money? No way! Its way cool to have an original Hurst shifter. Having the correct one is even better!:beer Best of luck with your search!
oh brother...every thing turns into a debate any more..now i know why i rarely post any more ok i said the repop is way wrong.....so i guess i mean the cutlass shifter is only kinda wrong...better? at least its a real forged shift lever that has the identical shape..fits the same way, and the only 2 diffs are...the H logo and fine threads verses the Hurst logo spelled out and coarse threads of the original buick shifter... ive never been able to buy a real Buick shifter...ever..i have 6 or 7 cutlass shifters right now and have had 3 or 4 dozen..so its an economical choice if you cant find or afford a real buick shifter..the cutlass is a direct bolt in, and works with a consolette its hard to tell the cutlass isnt right at a glance
Mark...sorry if it appears I am trying to create a stink... I am not. :TU: I'm sure you will agree "correct" can only be correct it correct parts are used... right? anyway, you have PM. Wheelz, Tampa Bay
