Guys I have a question on changing a automatic over to a 4 speed. I'm a mechanic by trade as many of you know but don't know how much to charge a friend of a friend to change his 327 automatic Chevelle over to a 4 speed. He has the parts to do the change over. I would like some input on this one, Thanks AL.

Time and materials. That's what I would do.

MMMMMMMMM. Going four speed is a good thing. :3gears:  I'm helping my Olds Pal go stick for free since he's my bud. Dunno what to tell you to charge.

I just had a great idea.

Charge him double, so you can come over here and do my swap for free

I think Chris actually has the right idea. Whatever you plan on charging this guy, double it. Putting the big stuff in like the clutch, bellhousing and trans is pretty straight forward, but I think its the details that are going to kill you. Like cutting the hole out in the floor and wiring the back up lights. And you know the car will be back at least once or twice for some tweaking. Just dont get "married" to it. I stopped doing side work when my door bell started ringing at dinner time.

Jason, I think you are right on! I years ago had that problem then started telling people I didn't have time for it. It got worse, I was so busy fixing other poeples cars I didn't have time didnt feet like doing anything for myself. So I just do fun stuff I enjoy and help out my Buick Buds when they need me because I know they would return the favor unlike a customer trying to get something for nothing and then being married to a car that not mine. So true!!!! Some people think once your fingerprints are on it, you gave them a lifetime bumber-to-bumper warranty! :spank:
I used to do side work for extra $, but now I NEVER let acquaintances know that I work on cars!!!
