I have a '60 LeSabre with a 364 and 3-speed on the column. The engine needs a rebuild. I was offered a good running 364 from a '61 with a Dynaflow. Is the crank drilled for a stick shift pilot bushing on Dynaflow cars? Is there a conversion bushing required from the aftermarket to make the switch? Are the cranks the same regardless? Thaks, Steve weim55 Colorado
To my knowledge, there was no differences in cranks until Buick switched to the ST400 in '64. I would think that all cranks up to '64 are the same regardless of whether they were connected to a Dynaflow or a stick.
I'd have to say it would definatly be a downgrade to switch an automatic. The factory stick is the icing that sealed the decision to buy the car in the first place! Thanks for the replies guys! Steve weim55 Colorado
I am not very knowledgable about the 364, but I know for a fact that the 264 and 322 cranks were different for stickshift and automatics. Buick offered a pilot bearing adapter so that a standard transmission could be used with an automatic crank. To do the reverse - use a stickshift crank with a Dynaflow - would have required the removal and machining of the crankshaft. I don't know whether that changed with the 364 or not.
Just remove the factory adapter from your crank (very carefully) & install it into the crank you will be using. Tom T.
