I'm kinda having regrets about selling my 364 nailhead. Sense selling it I have found alot more parts and more interest in it. It came out of my 58 special that had been in storage for 20 years or so. I didnt try to hard to get it running because I couldn't find anyone who knew anything about it or many parts. At the time all I saw was an inclosed drive shaft and really wanted to get rid of that. Sense selling the nailhead I've bought a 1970 buick 350 and th 350 trans to put in the car. I guess my questions are how souped up can I go with the nailhead and is it worth buying back (i'm pretty sure I can get it back)? I am still going to run an open drive shaft with the th 350 trans and not sure witch rear end yet (I know what that takes). Really the ultimate question is preformance out of a 364 nailhead. I just want a weakend cruiser/noisemaker/hotrod......... Thank for reading my story and any advice is greatly appreciated.

The 364 is not a bad motor. The heads, cam exhaust and most of the external hardware/brackets fit the 401/425. The intake, crank, rods, pistons, block differ.
The motor was available with 300hp 4bbl in '59-'60. Multi carb intakes are available through sources such as Offy, Vintage speed etc...
It would make a nice cruiser motor for your '58 and the adapter to the trans would be the same as a '59-63 401. If you can get it cheap, do it. If not the 401 make a great motor for street brusiers.

GOOD NEWS I got my old nailhead back while the site was down. I actually have to go get it tomarrow and disconnect it from the trans. This might take some time because the motor is locked up. :( . I'm not sure what happened to the site or all the post that were made about this thread but thanks for every ones help. I'll still have plenty of questions about rebuilding a pretty stout nailhead. I'm open to any and all opinions on pistons, cams, multi carb set ups, and all that good stuff. SO PLEASE HELP..... I was not aware that the 364 and the 401 shared so many parts thanks DUALQUAD55 that info helps alot, for some reason people list parts for the 401 and 425 but not for the 364 and kinda I thought that they shared some stuff.
