Will a 82-88 RWD 3.8 Timing Cover Fit a 68 Skylark 350? I have been seeing alot of things that say they are interchangable does anyone know?o No:
I'm pretty sure that the even fire 231"(late '77 & newer) RWD timing covers will work on the 350"...also the 4.1l. The V6 had either a 14 or a 20 bolt oil pan...not sure which version would have the correct timing cover for the 350".o No:
yes they are are interchangeable the 3.8 and the 350 are the same exept for the 350 2 extra cylinders :gt: i actually tryed it once with an 85 t-type and my spare 69 350 the only difference is the 350 has a larger capacity oil filter... fyi if your looking for an oil filter for your 350 make sure you specify you want a large capacity one or theyll give you one for a 3.8 happens to me everywhere i go........
easy way to fix that...tell them you need a filter for a ford. nearly all their engines (5.0 included) use the FL-1A or a similar design filter. 1 qt capacity and is the same as ours.
Thanks guys I may have caused some gears to turn though what started this was I saw a really cheap (new) cover on ebay 80 bucks High volume pump so I made some calls posted this message now ther are about 3 more on there starting at 169 one non high volume pump at 89. Sorry to anyone who wanted a cheap one.ou:
V6/350 COVERS YOU ARE GONNA' WANT TO CHECK THOSE OIL FILTERS REALLY WELL BEFORE YOU USE THEM , NOT INTERCHANGABLE . WIX #51515 ( FORD , SAME AS #FL1A ) AND WIX #51258 ( BUICK 350 67-79 ) HAVE DIFFERENT SIZE SPIN-ON THREAD HOLES , REALLY DIFFERENT . OIL FILTERS ARE A LOT MORE COMPLICATED THAN JUST SIZE/THREADS/SEAL , THERE IS BURST CAPACITY/CHECK VALVE PRESSURE/ETC . AC USED TO MAKE A LARGER AMC FILTER THAT SEEMED TO WORK OK BUT I HAVEN'T FOUND THAT AVAILABLE FOR A LONG TIME . I THINK FRAM AND-OR AC MAKE SOME LARGER CAPACITY PERFORMANCE FILTERS SPECIFICALLY FOR THE APPLICATION . ALWAYS USE THE RECOMMENDED OIL FILTER , THAT WAY IF THERE IS A PROBLEM IT IS THEIR PROBLEM .
