Hello all. Names Jason Leib from New Jersey. Just started on my second 350 Buick powered Regal. Its an 83 Limited 3.8. My first was an 84 TType. I had to send it to the crusher due to nasty rust. It was my daily driver for 5 years and the salt really tore it up. Anyway, here's a little bit of what I've done so far and what I have planned. Done: Torq Thrust D wheels, 15X8.5 all around with BFG Radial TA's 225 front and 275 back. New rotors, pads, hoses, calipers, bearings in fromt. Optima battery. New headliner. New rear bumper and fillers. T Type rear sway bar. Bilstein shocks. Be Cool radiator. To Do: Jim Burek is currently building me a 350 with slightly ported heads, TA 212 (I think) cam, forged pistons, TA intake, Edelbrock 750 carb, oil mods, low compression for regular gas. He's also building me a TH350 trans. HR Parts and Stuff poly motor mounts, G Force dual hump crossmember, Grant Steering wheel, B&M Quicksilver shifter, fender lip roll. Don't know what I'm gonna do about a rear, should have kept the 8.5 from the T Type. Right now it has a 7.5 with 2.41 gears. Thats gonna suck for a while till I can afford something decent. And the forum won't let me post pics o No: .
Welcome. Sounds like a nice driver. Wow yea you should have kept the 8.5 it is worth some bucks and is highly sought after today. That said you can often pick up a whole 7.5/7.625 rear from a salvage yard MCSS for reasonable money. It may even have a posi. If so it would likely need new clutches and you should change the fluid anyway. You swap the whole rear drum to drum and its any eazy at home common tool upgrade. It would have either 3.42s or 3.73s. It should be strong enough for that 350 especially if you keep regular radials on it. If you want to be safe you can add a support cover. www.taperformance.com makes and sells them. Life is too short not to enjoy your ride. Edit: Your local salvage yard should be able to do a search to locate that rear for you. I think I paid $200 a few years back drum to drum and it came with the sway bar and a posi that needed clutches. Wow you squeezed a 225 over an 8.5 rim. Was that a 70 or 75 series? Surely a 60 series would have trouble not breaking the bead. I have seen 235/60s on 8s.
Hi Vern, Don't worry, I didn't junk the car without pulling the rear. I do regret selling it though. At the time I was pouring every cent into this 472 Caddy engine I was building that never came together because of a certain machine shop and then I lost interest. So I sold all my parts and decided to go Buick power again.
Jason interesting you must have seen my sig. My two favorite hot street car engines are the big Bu & the big Cad. A bad machine shop can screw you up either way. Too all lazy irresponsible or corrupt machine shops :moonu: To fast cool drive anywhere gbodys :beers2: You know that a 3.42 would bring that lil 350 to life. :TU: Although you would want a 28 or 29 tall tire for any interstate driveing. Better to find a 3.08 or 3.23 for something that will see the highway regularly. Glad to see you are back in the game but do tell about ye ole Cad plan. Are you familiar with www.cadillacpower.com?
I lived at that forum for quite a while. That and the caddy500 forum. I had a lot of good parts for the caddy motor, too. Mostly MTS stuff. Scat rods and probe pistons, etc. I COULD NOT find a machine shop that wouldn,t blow me off. One had my engine for a year! Just wanted to build chevy and honda stuff I guess. But its good to be back with Buick power. Plus this such an awesome group of people at this forum.
I guess I have been lucky that way the machine / speed shop I used took interest in my project as it was something interesting and different. No problems fair prices. Machine shops very a lot based on their business & focus. I am and will always be a Buick fan. I had a stage 1 headed 455 back in the day and would like to have another. I have a GN that I bought new. Yes this is a great group of guys and a lot more of them. I joined this forum shortly before you did the first time in 02 and the one that preceded it. I was also a GSCA memeber for many years back in the late 80s & all through the 90s.
Re: 新加的空白文章1 Translated: "This is a new article added to a blank, in UBB visual editor, add and modify content of the article" I say? wtf?
Been there and done the 350 sbc thing but not the buick. Iam in the prosess of building a 68 350 olds for mine
Anyone live near Cecil County Dragway in MD? Wonderin' if there's a good turn out of Buicks there. Hopin to have the engine in to take the car over there for Buick day in October. Still waiting for my 350 at this point. Workin on a deal for an 8.5 inch rear and a giant ATR rear sway bar on a GN forum.
Hey ddjayl, We always have a good turnout in October, 100+ cars. I have a 82 Regal Sport Coupe with a worked 350 sbb & 350 trans + 3.08 posi 7.625. I changed from a 3.42, now it runs 1980 rpm at 50. Last year it was running out of air at 4000 about 92 mph, this year should be better. Diver AKA The shirtman.
