    Hello All
    I have a 71 350 thinking about putting 10.25:1
pistons in her will any work have to be done to crank
    etc???
    Thanks Jim

Just make sure you get that sucker balanced.

  3. Jim, I would have to say no to your question. I believe the only physical diff between the 1970 10.25 CR 350 engine and the lower compression 1971 350 is the piston dish. Oh, and the 70 GS heads had a very slightly lower volume, 2cc I think, per NHRA specs. Crank should be fine.

Jim the crank will work just fine. The only thing to mention here is when you remove the crank(which I would do an put new seals in) you want to check for any wear on the bearing surfaces. You will be installing new bearings right? You may need to have the crank turned and polished if there is any signs of scoring or groves that you can catch with your finger nail. Good luck on the upgrade.

Phil It really *is* a 350...

I put 10.25:1 .030 pistons in my 72 350 and the only thing we did was make sure there wasn't any valve/piston interference. We knew they'd fit, we were just being cautious. :)

So it does need to be balanced
    then right??

If you want the engine to last and be comfortable when driving.

That should be considered mandatory! Comparing a piston with a shallow dish to one with a deeper dish - they are bound to have enough of a difference in weight to really rattle your fillings out, if you didn't get it balanced.:Brow:
