I have a Chevy LUV chassis thats going underneath an old Studebaker truck. The LUV had a small block Chebby swapped into it at one time. I won't be putting a SBC back in it, but was seriously considering the Buick 350 & had a couple questions.

I'm wondering if the SBC & Buick 350 motor mounts are similar, and are they in the same location on the block? If they're similar, that'd make mounting a 350 Buick much simpler.

I know nothing internal is interchangeable from the Buick 350 to the SBC, but have heard that the dizzy will swap. How about exhaust manifolds/headers? Will SBC stuff work on the Buick?

What overdrive tranny will bolt up to the 350? I've seen stuff on the 200, but what about the 700? What kind of vehicle will I find the right OD tranny in?

Is around 450 lbs about right for a stock 350?

Thanx in advance for any input & tips.

The Chevy & Buick frame mts. will be different. Advance Adapters might have some frame mts. to put a 3.8l v6 into an S-10....that might also work on the LUV (not sure though). The Buick 350" will mount to the 3.8l v6 mts.

Distributors won't swap between the Chevy & Buick engines....although caps will.

I'd go with the 200-4r overdrive tranny. The 700r4 requires an adapter. Plus, the gear spread on the 200-4r is better....not such a drastic drop from 1st to 2nd.

    No dice on the headers/manifolds.

    Welcome to the board!!:TU: :bglasses:

    SkylarkSteve Hello Michael

A stock Buick 350 will weigh in at about 450 pounds.

Welcome and good luck on your project. :TU:

Thanx for the welcome & input. What about the location of the mounts on the actual block? Are they in the same aproximate location from the Chebby to the Buick block? Fabbing the mounts themselves is no prob, I'm just trying to picture where the mount bolts to the Buick block.

So the Buick 350 does weigh in at 450 lbs. Man, thats light- & even better w/ headers & an aluminum intake. Sounds like a good street rod engine. Especially w/ that torque!

Plus the dist. is in the front...much easier to work with back around the firewall.:TU:

The Buick 350'' is also made of a higher nickle content than a Chevy. The deep skirted design is substantially stronger too!!:Smarty: :TU:

If you need a set of factory frame mounts, I have a set from a 70 Skylark. These are bolt in. See Ebay #2462208308
