Does anyone have advice on 350 headers? I will be having the engine built this winter (4-barrel, mild poston cam, head porting, etc.) I want some headers that will clear all the power accessories (A/C, P/S) and will look good, and get me a performance gain as well. Do you guys have any personal experience with headers? Do they add alot of heat? Thanks for any info!:TU:

I don't have an answer but I too am interested in this question. I have a 69 350-2 that I just tore apart and will be building.

I just got a brand new set of headers from TA and had them coated with HPC coating. They say their coating keeps temps down by as much as 40% over painted or chrome headers. I can't tell you how well they work yet. It will be about a month before I have the engine back together and in the car.

I don't understand why 350 headers won't work on a 66 Skylark with a 350 (Buick) installed, I thought the chassis were about the same though the GM line, like a Chevelle, with a Chevelle the same headers when used on a small block go from 65-77 so whats the problem with using headers from say a 70 Skylark on a 66? Makes my head hurt! :spank:

Headers always increase under hood heat but different coatings or even the raps will help with the temps vs the stock manifolds..... and I'm sure there are HP gains, myself I like the look and the sound gain that headers offer. :TU:

    Derek,
I also started out with a 350 Skylark,2 Barrel with single exhaust. My first upgrade was a set of Hooker Super Competition Headers, I had them Jet-Hot coated and I've never looked back:Smarty:

    Derek,
I have a 71 GS350 with a 4 speed and its non air with Pdb and PS.I have a set of TA headers and have plenty of clearance on all areas including the crossmember.I also have a 3 inch exhaust on the car and it lined up real well too.You wont regret TA'S headers either.Unless you think about those wonderful to get at center bolts.I jacked my car up about 18 inches and it gave me more than enough room to work. You may need to jack the motor off the mounts a bit to get them in there but,its no biggie.

I have pretty much the same car a 1971 gs350 with the muncie 4 speed and ac. I recently rebuilt it much as you have described what you want to do with your car. I put on the TA headers and I am very happy. I had to do some minor clutch spring changes and modify the little bracket that holds the dip stick but the rest was pretty easy. The whole exhaust system was shot so I got a whole new 2 1/2" set from Jegs for $199. 00 and the flowmaster delta flow 40 series mufflers. It sounds sweet. If you get the a system with the cross over pipe be careful about clearance with the drive shaft when you jack up the car.

IRT 350 engines in `64 - `67 Skylarks, those cars never came with that engine and only a few have been transplanted, so during the development of the headers, just `68 & later cars were considered. The engine crossmember on the `67 & prior is a little more rearward so the headers will hit.

Chevy small blocks came in both generations, so that is why they fit both, but I'm not sure if it is the exact same header between the two.

I know the 300 & 340 came in the Buicks, but the head design is different, so again that platform wasn't considered for the 350 headers.

Thanks for all the info guys! I plan on having the headers already installed on the engine before it gets put back in. Is this going to be possible?

Nice thinking Derek I had the same idea about puting on the headers and installing it with the engine. It won't work. They stick out way behind the engine as well as other issues. The one that gave me the most trouble was the drivers side. Ironically that side has the most open space. It was pretty easy once I got the car about 2 1/2 feet off the ground brought the header straight up from under the engine then rotate it to the front. At that point it's right in place.
When you get ready to rebuild take a look at some of the other TA products. I put on the stage 1 intake and one of there cams. There were very helpful with any tech questions I had.
    Good Luck Dave

Dave, thanks! I had a feeling it may not work. That would just be too easy wouldn't it?

Anyone know where I can buy header bolts and gaskets for 350 Hooker Super Comp headers?
    Thanks!
