One strategy is to talk to the shop and ask them about their procedure. If it doesn't follow what you need then explain to them what you are looking for and ask again if it something they are willing to do. The reason why I say "Ask", is some shops will take anything other than a question as telling them what to do as though they don't know their business and take offense. If you get a bunch of grief then leave and check out the next available shop. Do you already have the cam?
Ok makes sense. I do not have the cam, I'm want to make sure I know exactly what my plan is and exactly what I need before I just start ordering things.
It does check out. my bad. I'm surprised being so far down it's that high. I guess the small dish really makes up for it. If using Felpro blue gaskets they are actually .045 not .043 with 3.9" bore. Small difference I know. Pmuller9 I'm sure you used 3.85 stroke, not the 3.800 you listed.
These are the correct springs to pair with the crower level 3 cam correct? http://m.summitracing.com/parts/cro...NwLodQMOFi4t0cLyI-X4MePg0pdkE0rX-MaAqHp8P8HAQ
Yes, but you are better off getting the complete spring and lifter kit. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/cro-84150?seid=srese1&gclid=CIud_8bk6McCFY9ufgodPbAGQw Also its always better to have new retainers that fit the specific spring. Paul
Great! That's what I will get. I looked for the complete kit with lifters but couldn't find it. Guess I need to look harder next time!
Get the kit with the spring specific retainers as in the last post. You can use the TA stage 1 springs with stock retainers also. I always try to stick with the same maker. That way if there's any warranty issues they don't point fingers at each other.
I get the feeling that comp cams are not well liked around here, is that the case? And why? Just curious is all.
Well guys, finished disassembling the motor today and the block is toast. Big chunk is missing out of the number 6 cylinder. That rod also had no main bearing left on it, it was completely destroyed. So now it looks like I'll be looking for another 350 block or just step up to a 455 if I can find one. Good thing I haven't ordered any parts yet for it! Any leads for a block or motors?
What year 350 will be interchangeable with my 72? I found a 78 350 already disassembled but had all the parts still. Its pretty close to me. The guy is asking 200 bucks for it.
any year block is fine . if you can get 73 and up capscrew rods that's a plus for you. use 75 and down heads.
So if that 78 block and crank is good all the other 72 parts will work? And I say the other 72 parts because I'm assuming the 78 parts may be no good. Just assuming the worst here. And I think my crank may be too bad to save, the journal on the #6 connecting rod was terrible!
crank can be resurfaced in most cases. but use the 78 rods. yes any of your parts will work. you will want to do some oil mods to block.
