How far can a 350" be bored and still be relatively :Brow: safe from heating issues/etc. ? I have a project in mind but need some information. Also what is the bore and stroke combination ? Just in case some of yall out there may know off the top of your heads.

    thanks in advance.....................

Dave, the bore is 3.8 and the stroke is 3.85
You should'nt have any trouble at .040 over, in fact, I don't believe you wil any trouble with .060 over. Jim Burek

The 350 is a thinwall block, it weighs 450 lbs, comparably the 300 engine weighs 500 lbs. I've always read .030 is the limit, I've went .040 with no problem, going any more you might want to have it sonic checked, all blocks are not created equal.

    WHAT!!!

.090 over safely?! They're treating it like a Chebby! RUN, RUN NOW WHILE YOU STILL HAVE A CHANCE!

I think the Olds 350" is the only 350" that can take that kind of bore!! I wouldn't even try that with a Chevy!!:eek2:

Josh - Did they sonic test that block...or was he just rattling off figures off the top of his head??

    .090" over seems VERY unlikely!!:Dou:

that's what gilberts told me here in PA, and i had the block there for him to see, i did only get it .030 over but he said i could go .090 over easy and he wanted to do it, i shoulda let him, i was more worried about how much the more the pistons would cost, im sure if he woulda f@#$ed the block he woulda replaced it, he's a pretty repitable dude, and i don't think he would say he could do it if he couldn't, he seen the block and that's what he told me, i don't know what kinda tests he ran on it.

You're right about the parts costs!! Even if the block would have taken a .090" overbore, the pistons and rings would have been tough to come up with!! Rings may have been the biggest challenge.

Sure would be nice to be able to have a much bigger bore!!:Dou:

We had a number of blocks sonic checked. Many had sidewall thicknesses if LESS than .100!! These were used stock bore blocks. We run our race car with a bore of .030 over even though NHRA allows a max of .070....... We want our car to run fast, but we haven't even tried .060 over yet. No way would I take them out to .090!! Our blocks are also filled with block concrete to keep them in shape.

    Good Luck!!
